UN says ozone layer slowly healing, hole to mend by 2066

Earth’s protective ozone layer is slowly but noticeably healing at a pace that would fully mend the hole over Antarctica in about 43 years, a new United Nations report says.

A once-every-four-years scientific assessment found recovery in progress, more than 35 years after every nation in the world agreed to stop producing chemicals that chomp on the layer of ozone in Earth’s atmosphere that shields the planet from harmful radiation linked to skin cancer, cataracts and crop damage. […]

The progress is slow, according to the report presented Monday at the American Meteorological Society convention in Denver. The global average amount of ozone 18 miles (30 kilometers) high in the atmosphere won’t be back to 1980 pre-thinning levels until about 2040, the report said. And it won’t be back to normal in the Arctic until 2045.

Antarctica, where it’s so thin there’s an annual giant gaping hole in the layer, won’t be fully fixed until 2066, the report said. […]

“Ozone action sets a precedent for climate action. Our success in phasing out ozone-eating chemicals shows us what can and must be done – as a matter of urgency — to transition away from fossil fuels, reduce greenhouse gases and so limit temperature increase,” World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Prof. Petteri Taalas said in a statement. …

I’m so glad we have the UN to tell us the honest to God’s truth on every subject. /s

The ozone layer goes through natural cycles. They are trying to sell this as some great government regulation success story to justify whatever actions they take on Climate Change.

The hole that will never heal is the hold in their butts. I don’t trust a word they say.

There’s still a problem; rockets. How many can they send to space before damage begins? But rockets are the biggest contributing factor. And we get to pay for it.

I have the utmost trust for world government, individual governments, our government and scientists hired by government. After all, they ARE science. /s

No need to change anything. They are going to re-baseline and implement carbon credits to stay neutral. That’s what all of this is about.

Elimination or reduction of CFCs did have a drastic effect on first reducing the ozone layer depletion and then reversing it.

By eliminating CFCs we gave natural cycles a chance to rebuild the layer

ozone-depleting chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were destroying the ozone layer. When the world adopted the Montreal Protocol and drastically cut CFC use, the ozone layer started to recover.

BS. Not one piece of vermin in that dark crap hole knows when the ozone is going to do squat.

Ozone action sets a precedent for climate action.

Which is a good indication that it was most likely a hoax all along.

there’s an annual giant gaping hole in the layer>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sounds like a short description of Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address.

Why are Democrat leftists fascinated by holes?

I am not convinced. Pretty hard to point to a control data set to prove that too. There have been some pretty strong arguments all along that the ozone hole was more a natural part of the ebb and flow of the ozone layer, and that volcanic activity plays the largest role in depletion.

But I am skeptical of most of what the globalist authoritarians are pushing, so I do admit to an automatic bias against them.

Ooh, the UN has something to say about the environment? Ooh. The same idiots that have openly stated that the pandemic are an opportunity to end all capitalist economies.
Imagine my surprise.

Right up there with Wikipedia and CNN.

I’ve seen papers in atmospheric physics to that effect.
They say ozone changes are due more to changes in the strength of the earth’s magnetic field and changes in particle flux from the sun.

This is so retarded. The ozone layer is “measured” using balloons, aircraft, and satellites. So, how long have we been able to even say we can measure it? Maybe 50 years? The minute “scientists” could even plausibly say they could measure it, they immediately determined a negative trend ON A 4.5 BILLION year old planet. Ridiculous.
