Are you kidding? 99% of all politicians couldn’t pass even a cursory background check.

They do. It’s called “opposition research”.

Why just the Republicans? Has anyone counted the number of times Biden has lied about his past? Half of it is fabricated.

Do people here know how background checks work by state?

Good point. In the last, oh, about ten years or so I’ve noticed a good handful of skanky folks with whom I was actually acquainted in the past who changed their names and ran for public office with a new name and new history, and new reputation. In each case it seemed kind of bewildering - I was like, “Don’t they ever check before they decide to run someone? This person is a full-on globalist!”

Then I started to realize that a lot of them are KNOWN by the GOP to be skanks and criminals, and the image and name change are part of the game. Still not sure of the reason, except, you know, the will to self-destruction.

Case in point: Ihlan Omar. A skank of the worst kind, investigated by some journalists but given a pass.

It was said in 2008, that the Democrat candidate for President would not have been able to pass a background check for a security clearance.

However, as a US Senator he was automatically granted one.

As President, he got access to all of it.

Lindsey will gladly do a background check on any or all of them.

Santos was a marginal candidate in a marginal district and apparently was not background checked by the NRCC, the House GOP campaign unit. And even if he had been, what would you want them to do?

Like a copy of Obama’s footprints on an actual Birth Certificate kinda background checks or finding his actual passport data, or information to attend public school, or his SSN’s......

You mean that kind of background checks?
ROFLOL

The ‘intelligence services police’ have all that covered.

In addition to background checks, they should have random drug and alcohol screenings. If you fail you are out! Just like all companies do now.

Surely they will agree on THAT.

It gets worse than that...Senators, Representatives and Federal Judges all have access to classified information upon appointment by “virtue of their position.” No clearance background check. That’s right...idiots like Fetterman, AOC, Omar, etc have access to classified without being officially cleared.

Because you really can’t. There’s very little a party can do about who signs up for it. You didn’t have to pass a background check to register GOP, and if you do the necessary paperwork and signature gathering to become a candidate there really isn’t much the GOP can do about it. They might do some looking into you and decide to back an opponent in the primary, but it’s often considered bad pool for the party to participate in the primaries like that. And then if you win the nomination anyway there’s even less they can do. Just look at Trump nobody in charge of the GOP wanted him, but once he got the nod they weren’t going to sabotage the party to try to stop him.

While there’s a ton of backroom stuff that goes on in the parties in the end candidates choose themselves. And if the candidate is a scam artist, well, too bad.

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

"Does no one do background checks on politicians?"

Patriots need to work with their state lawmakers to amend state constitutions to do the following.

State constitutions need to require anybody who is planning to run for a government office to first pass a basic constitutional law test that emphasizes the federal government's constitutionally limited powers.

Freepers should be able to ace such a test.

Passing the test can later be used as evidence of a lawmaker not upholding their oath to protect and defend the Constitution when patriots kick them out of office for supporting bills that ignore the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution's guarantee of republican form government for each state as examples.

In fact, make it clear to incumbent lawmakers that they're going to get primaried in 2024 if they don't promise to amend state constitutions for that purpose.

The press is supposed to do this. The quality of a government will never exceed the quality of the press.
