Does no one do background checks on politicians?

When applying for a job, companies verify the degrees and employers on my resume using an online service before making an offer. Why doesn't anyone at the Republican party do this for GOP candidates, so that Republicans are not embarrassed by frauds like George Santos? Whenever there is a contested primary race, the RNC should run background checks on the main candidates and publish the results, so that primary voters are informed. An applicant's consent is required to do a background check. If someone refuses, the RNC and the candidate's opponents should publicize that.

“They do. It’s called “opposition research”.”

Is that a fancy way of saying that all candidates in an election should be looking for dirt on their opponents.

Santos’ election is the fault of negligence by his opponents. I have to wonder if the “negligence” was intentional.

In addition to background checks, they should have random drug and alcohol screenings. If you fail you are out! Just like all companies do now.

Surely they will agree on THAT.

It gets worse than that...Senators, Representatives and Federal Judges all have access to classified information upon appointment by “virtue of their position.” No clearance background check. That’s right...idiots like Fetterman, AOC, Omar, etc have access to classified without being officially cleared.

Probably they did discover plenty of dirt about him, but thought it would be better to wait until after he took office and then release it, so as to embarrass the entire party.

Because you really can’t. There’s very little a party can do about who signs up for it. You didn’t have to pass a background check to register GOP, and if you do the necessary paperwork and signature gathering to become a candidate there really isn’t much the GOP can do about it. They might do some looking into you and decide to back an opponent in the primary, but it’s often considered bad pool for the party to participate in the primaries like that. And then if you win the nomination anyway there’s even less they can do. Just look at Trump nobody in charge of the GOP wanted him, but once he got the nod they weren’t going to sabotage the party to try to stop him.

While there’s a ton of backroom stuff that goes on in the parties in the end candidates choose themselves. And if the candidate is a scam artist, well, too bad.

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

"Does no one do background checks on politicians?"

Patriots need to work with their state lawmakers to amend state constitutions to do the following.

State constitutions need to require anybody who is planning to run for a government office to first pass a basic constitutional law test that emphasizes the federal government's constitutionally limited powers.

Freepers should be able to ace such a test.

Passing the test can later be used as evidence of a lawmaker not upholding their oath to protect and defend the Constitution when patriots kick them out of office for supporting bills that ignore the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution's guarantee of republican form government for each state as examples.

In fact, make it clear to incumbent lawmakers that they're going to get primaried in 2024 if they don't promise to amend state constitutions for that purpose.

Does no one do background checks on politicians?

The press is supposed to do this. The quality of a government will never exceed the quality of the press.

Unlike Joe tax payer stocking shelves somewhere, politicians, cops, judges, teachers, Congress, Senate, et al, are not required to submit to random drug tests either.

Are you suggesting the RNC actually run a human resource check on candidates?

While they are at it, maybe they should be required to take and PASS some refresher courses on the bill of Rights, the banking system, economics, states rights, the court system.
