Does no one do background checks on politicians?

When applying for a job, companies verify the degrees and employers on my resume using an online service before making an offer. Why doesn't anyone at the Republican party do this for GOP candidates, so that Republicans are not embarrassed by frauds like George Santos? Whenever there is a contested primary race, the RNC should run background checks on the main candidates and publish the results, so that primary voters are informed. An applicant's consent is required to do a background check. If someone refuses, the RNC and the candidate's opponents should publicize that.

Are you kidding? 99% of all politicians couldn’t pass even a cursory background check.

If the RNC said it was sunny outside, I would still go out and check.

They do. It’s called “opposition research”.

I wouldn’t trust a politician in my outhouse with a muzzle on.

Why just the Republicans? Has anyone counted the number of times Biden has lied about his past? Half of it is fabricated.

Do people here know how background checks work by state?

Those aren't lies. Those are "harmless embellishments and colorful flights of fancy common among all politicians."

Good point. In the last, oh, about ten years or so I’ve noticed a good handful of skanky folks with whom I was actually acquainted in the past who changed their names and ran for public office with a new name and new history, and new reputation. In each case it seemed kind of bewildering - I was like, “Don’t they ever check before they decide to run someone? This person is a full-on globalist!”

Then I started to realize that a lot of them are KNOWN by the GOP to be skanks and criminals, and the image and name change are part of the game. Still not sure of the reason, except, you know, the will to self-destruction.

I hope this is sarcasm?

Bingo. It’s not the job of the RNC to be a gatekeeper. Give them that power and eventually they’ll only pass their “preferred” candidates.

If an R candidate is dirty, let his primary and general election opponents find that out.

And if they fail, it’s ultimately the voters fault for not doing their own due diligence. If you care more about the character of your potential babysitter than the person you are voting to give the keys to the public treasury, then you deserve whatever scumbags you get screwing you over.

Case in point: Ihlan Omar. A skank of the worst kind, investigated by some journalists but given a pass.

It was said in 2008, that the Democrat candidate for President would not have been able to pass a background check for a security clearance.

However, as a US Senator he was automatically granted one.

As President, he got access to all of it.

Santos was a marginal candidate in a marginal district and apparently was not background checked by the NRCC, the House GOP campaign unit. And even if he had been, what would you want them to do?

Like a copy of Obama’s footprints on an actual Birth Certificate kinda background checks or finding his actual passport data, or information to attend public school, or his SSN’s......

You mean that kind of background checks?
ROFLOL

The ‘intelligence services police’ have all that covered.
