If I mention the Bruce Willis movie, "Die Hard" you probably know what I mean. What other movies are like this?
One that comes to mind for me is the first Rocky film from 1976. Christmas not mentioned but the story takes place during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. There are Christmas movies trees and decorations in several scenes.
There's also the classic Frank Capra movie, "It's a Wonderful Life". I could be wrong, but I don't think Capra intended that to be a Christmas movie but obviously it gets associated with the holiday with what happens at the end of the story.
What other movies can you think of?
The framing story for The Princess Bride also takes place at Christmastime.
The ‘drummer boy’ song is very popular, yet no such character is found in the gospel accounts (Matthew and Luke). The song was supposedly written in 1941.
Yet it is sung with emotion as though it is indeed part of the actual story, and is a key part of many Christmas plays.

My first Christmas after accepting Christ at 12 years old this song could not play without it bringing me to tears.
I, a sinner, had zero to offer my Lord , yet He died for me and gave me eternal life.
I felt just like that little drummer boy.
All I had to give Him was an expression of how grateful to Him I was and how much I loved Him.
The drum was my heart , and it beat for Him.
The story of that little drummer boy may not be biblical, but the Love found in the bible was .
At least for me.
I agree one hundred percent!
It sure beats Grandma Got Run Over by a Raindeer!
LOL...made me think of this:
classic! Thank you for the reminder.
As is Die Hard 2 with McLean trying to get home via Dulles International during a Christmas Eve snowstorm where terrorists have taken over the airport.
Also, doesn't "Better Off Dead take place with John Cusack sharing a cross country ride with a stuck up girl to get home for Christmas?
"I want my twoo dowllers."
And "Lethal Weapon" takes place at Christmas as well.
“Trapped In Paradise”. Never hear about this one but it’s hilarious. Takes place at Christmas time, but not necessarily a Christmas movie.
Trading Place, takes place during Christmas and New Year and Akroyd’s character sneaks into the party dressed as Santa
French Connection, starts at Christmas time, but the story takes months
The Ice Harvest, black comedy/ noir mob movie, Christmas is in the movie but really as trying to handle family obligations when your wife realizes you’re scum and is divorcing you
There’s actually a lot. That’s the kind of Christmas movie I’m drawn to, non-traditional and often weird.
Ooh I really should have mention Brazil, all takes place during the Christmas shopping season and has a recurring gag of people buying each other lame thoughtless Christmas presents.
My favorite Christmas movie is Stalag 17.
I think you have mashed up two John Cusack movies. “Better Off Dead” has “two dollars” and the cute French exchange student. “The Sure Thing” has the cross-country ride with the stuck-up girl.
The Ref is our standard Christmas Eve movie.
Die Hard
Who can forget “Reindeer Games” with Gary Sinise and ben Affleck
Best Christmas Song?
“God Rest Ye Merry gentlemen” by Bare Naked Ladies
From "Silent Night, Deadly Night", a warm-hearted tale of how a traumatized lad totally snaps when forced to don a Santa suit.
My runner up is "Santa's Slay" where wrestler Bill Goldberg's Claus is actually a son of Satan who's lost bet with an angel forced him out of his real character for a thousand years.
Until now.
One more worth catching is "Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale" - where a boy in a Finnish backwater finds Nick isn't a saint and possibly not even a humanoid creature.
Ho, ho, ho!
