He ended up trolling his own base with this one.

Unbelievable the number of missteps he’s made just in the last couple of weeks.

- wanting to “cancel” the consitution

- dinner with Kanye

- the “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT”

As Rush often said, the only person who can separate Trump from his base is Trump himself. Sadly that’s what he’s doing. I think the pressure has finally gotten to him.

It almost seems deliberate.

I do know something else now.
No matter what he does, someone will still call it 5-D Chess...

Even if he meant otherwise on all of those, how is he so dense to not understand how it will be taken?

Thank you for the thoughtful comments.

Here is a schedule of Trump's cabinet picks and Senate votes. Oddly, the closest margin was for Betty DeVos, who was great. Sessions and HHS Head Tom Price had the second closest vote (he resigned amid a "scandal" over private jet use). The next closest margins were for Mnuchin and Eugene Scalia, followed by Barr. That's a mixed bag of terrible and not terrible picks.

Tillerson got all Republicans and three a Dems to confirm him. Trump asked Yates to be acting Attorney General - that's all on him. Trump's pick Nikki Haley won confirmation by a vote 96-4. The Mooch didn't require anyone's ok, and Spicer and even Priebus disagreed with his appointment Guliani is just a hot mess, but Trump never pulled his "ace" off the mound. Bolton had been a well-known hothead and dope for a long time.

I get that the Senate will play hard ball. However, Trump the social media master probably could have used Twitter etc to get good picks through. Instead, Trump just made bad picks, and the votes weren't always a massive "deep state endorsed" margin.

Yes, Trump was a great businessman. But someone said to me, in business Trump had to deal with sharks...in politics you deal with demons. Trump didn't figure that out and kept bringing Quint when he needed an exorcist.

To further my assessment that Trump's terrible picks can't be blamed on the Senate, he just endorsed McCarthy. He owns that one.

Now, do I think DeSantis can do a better job? I dunno....Tallahassee isn't the D.C. swamp. But he is racking up a lot of wins.

Trump isn't out. I WANT him in this fight and discernment process. Kurt Schlichter put it best:

Let’s have a primary and decide! ...he should be vetted by the people. A primary sharpens the eventual winner while testing all the candidates. Trump has to answer some tough questions. What has he learned from his mistakes? Will he screw up personnel again? Does he intend to subject America to years more of Trump drama, and what makes him think voters want that again? What, exactly, is his plan to win key states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan in 2024 (It’s a fair question to ask DeSantis and any other aspirants too)? Here’s the thing – I do not see a clear path for Trump to get to 270 electoral votes in the general as of today, though that can change quickly, so that’s the big question he and every other candidate has got to answer because we cannot afford another term of these communist bastards wrecking our country.

What is Desanctimonius’ view on McCarthy. Answer, you have no idea because he’s not a leader. Trump takes positions so it’s easy to disagree wherever you will. It’s the difference between a leader and a political puke. No one can ever disagree with DeSantis on his view about whether or not they stole the election from Kari Lake because he has no position. You don’t make enemies but you also don’t change anything. Hard pass. Trump takes a stand. He puts himself out there. Trump leads. There is no reason to believe that the day won’t come when everyone sounds like Trump in terms of election integrity. In such an environment DeSantis will thrive. He’ll be even tougher than Trump once he knows which position to take and what’spopularamong “Conservatives”. Hopefully you see the problem.

I do see the problem.

Many people have decided the election without a primary ballot being cast, nor a primary debate being had.

Indeed, lots of people on FR trashed Trump when he rode down that escalator. And why not? He'd presented himself as a pretty liberal Republican. He and Guliani weren't too far apart philosophically. And Rudy performed terribly as a candidate.

Nonetheless, here we are. Trump shook the political tree and the culture shifted. We are all better off for what Trump has done to that tree.

I haven't declared Trump DOA or doomed or a has-been. I haven't adopted any of the school-yard names for him. All I did was point out that he's got an awful HR track record that limits the ability to administer full MAGA.

It's mind-boggling how so many people are working overtime to throw Trump's opposition under the bus. It's reminiscent of how so many people tried to throw Trump under the bus in 2015-2016.

Same thing here, all my army goodies were left behind to save weight in the move from CA to OH. Still kinda sore about it 60 years later... ;)
