Good doggie. But the best defense for flock/herd protection are DONKEYS. I see one or two out with a local meat producer cattle farmers herd near my house every day. Yotes never bother them cause those Donkeys HATE coyotes and their kicks will kill a coyote real quick.

The dogs owner didn’t have a gun so he could back up his dog?

Only on FR will I read an article about a guard dog, and the Thread turns into a great debate over donkeys. You learn something new every day.

My Siberian Husky spends so much time out at the back fence, we are pretty sure she has a coyote boyfriend.

I don’t know why the shepherd wasn’t carrying. I would have been. Whenever you see coyotes, kill them. You don’t leave your buddy all alone to have to fight off a whole pack.

Great Pyrenees.
Got one beside me.
Best dog EVERx
With the blue eye, the one in the report is probably a mix with husky. Oddly enough, the NC breeder had this exact mix due to a male husky sneaking onto the farm. I wonder if this was one of the pups. I’ll ask them...

Coyotes packing up seems to be a fairly new trait. I don’t remember this being part of their behavior in the past. Inbred with city dogs?
To: nickcarraway
You should have two dogs not one. Two Pyrenees or Anatolians are a force multiplier. Large packs of coyotes are common here. As soon as we get our compound fenced we’re getting two Anatolians.

That dog is a real bad ass.
When I was young, I went fishing and took my Black Lab with me.
It was getting towards evening and packing it up
when we came across a few yotes, who surrounded my Lab.
He slam dunked one of them while the others backed off.
Gave me just enough time to get us the hell out of there. Good boy!
