Good doggie. But the best defense for flock/herd protection are DONKEYS. I see one or two out with a local meat producer cattle farmers herd near my house every day. Yotes never bother them cause those Donkeys HATE coyotes and their kicks will kill a coyote real quick.
But do the donkeys care about watching the sheep?
My family had a donkey years ago for protection of our goats. Dad shot him dead after catching him actually attacking them. i guess there’s a bad one every now and then.
We have two guard dogs now. Recently, a man in the area retired and with our permission, he walks our ranches at night, hunting coyotes and pigs. On about 5,000 acres, he has killed almost 50 coyotes in the past 5 months and 90 pigs. Our guard dogs are accustomed to his presence now and don’t bark when he’s there now. He likes to hunt and we buy his shells. it’s a win/win relationship.
Not sure what you are smoking Gaffer. Donkeys over shepherd worker dogs? Really?? Seems you have never owned a shepherd dog. Or at least sagacious one. If jackasses satisfy one’s need for a shepherd, well...I don’t know. cheers
There’s a guy we pass on the way to the new house who has an eclectic collection of oddball cattle, horses, goats, and sheep - and a couple of donkeys. And now that you’ve said this, I wonder if that isn’t the reason for the donkeys.
Yes. People don’t realize donkeys are quite aggressive if threatened and they will kill you. Their kicks are lethal. The animal that kills more humans every year in Africa is not the Nile crocodile nor lions of the Serengeti. Nope. Its the Donkey.
Casper took out eight... he could use help... donkey or dog...
