Rigorous international study of N95 masks upends federal COVID narrative
Just The News ^ | December 2, 2022 | Greg Piper

The CDC took nearly two years to formally recognize distinctions between masks for mitigating COVID-19 spread, finally saying in January that cloth masks offer "the least" protection and N95 respirators, which meet strict federal standards, "the highest."

The agency's slight nod to the largely symbolic value of cloth masks, predominantly worn in school settings, followed months of calls by onetime White House COVID advisers, among others, to promote masks actually designed to stop aerosolized transmission. It also spurred a run on N95s, sending prices skyward.

But a new peer-reviewed, randomized controlled trial (RCT) of N95s versus surgical masks, considered the midrange of protection, is undermining the late federal pivot to higher-quality masks and calls to reimpose mask mandates in schools, among other settings.

Of course they don’t work. If you were to suggest that people working in a biolab that handles dangerous pathogens should just wear N95 masks, you’d be run out of town. Every single person who works with viruses knows that you can’t be truly safe from airborne pathogens unless you wear a biohazard suit with its own external air supply. No kind of mask will cut it.

There used to be a handful of maskholes on FreeRepublic. I haven’t seen any lately, but the mask psychosis was injected deeply into the American psyche, even into people who identified as “conservative”.

It’s gone beyond simply arguing against mandates. Healthy people choosing to wear masks in public are simply gullible cowards. I don’t support being rude to people you don’t know, but the mask issue has so destroyed social cohesion that we need a way to rebuild it.

I’ll never go back to mask authoritarianism, ever.

Oh, they're still here. My impression is that they are elderly, self-absorbed hypochondriacs. As, unfortunately, so many elderly tend to be nowadays.

‘This generation is being groomed to do strictly as they are told by the government’

from what I have seen from my fellow humans these past three years, the government has to expend very little effort to groom people; they are only too happy to groom themselves...

Academics tout ‘psychological benefits’ of return to mask mandates: People don’t have to think for themselves

A trio from Brown University suggested that demanding citizens wear masks ‘removes the onus on individuals to figure out ‘what is safe’

The opinion piece made the claim that a “psychological benefit” of mask mandates is that citizenry does not have to decide for themselves “what is safe” in public life.

Early in the pandemic, the surgeon general was telling the public Not to wear masks, since they may touch their face, which at "face value" made no sense since you do not get infected by mere skin contact, as it needs an entry point such as your mouth, which is what he should have warned off. Masks can reduce droplet size, but then there are Lying and misleading headlines such as, "Researchers find face masks don't hinder breathing during exercise:" Science past and present - and common sense (study)

That’s rather a sweeping judgemen.t there, Mr. DSH.

Yup...the people judging and condemning mask-wearers are virtue signaling in their own way.

I’ve rarely seen such hatred directed towards others for their personal choices. It’s truly bizarre how hate-filled they are toward those who wear masks.

I guess it’s the human condition: we feel compelled to judge, hate and condemn others because we feel elevated when we can do so.

As for my mask-wearing, it’s obvious that a N95 stops some droplets from being breathed out, so when I’m ill I wear a mask when I have to go out for groceries or whatever. It’s just common sense that it stops some virus-laden droplets from being expelled when I exhale.
