Last year's second-place finisher has replaced its sister luxury brand Lexus at the top of Consumer Report's reliability ranking list.
The two tied with a rounded-up predicted reliability score of 72, but Toyota was a few decimals better, and they were followed by BMW (65), Mazda (65) and Honda (62).
The study surveyed more than 300,000 owners of 2000 to early 2023 model year cars about 17 potential problem areas.
" Consumers tell us reliability is one of the most important factors when buying a car," Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports, said. "Our data can help people choose a satisfying car that can go the distance and avoid headaches at the repair shop, which is more important than ever with high prices, low inventory and more vehicle choices."
The highest-ranked American brand was Lincoln , which was also the higest mover up the list 10th with a score of 54, followed by Buick, which also scored a rounded 54.
Tesla, Chevrolet, GMC, Volkswagen, Jeep and Mercedes-Benz filled out the bottom of the list of 24 brands.
Several automakers, including Dodge, Land Rover and Porsche, are not part of the study due to "low model count or insufficient data."
Hybrid cars led the way among model types ahead of sports cars, hybrid SUVs midsize/large cars and compact pickups, while full-size pickups were at the bottom of the list below plug-in hybrid/electric vehicles.
The Toyota Corolla Hybrid was the most reliable car model with a score of 93, the Lexus GX was second (91), the Mini Cooper was third (89), the Toyota Prius was fourth (89) and the Mazda MX-5 was fifth (85).

I can vouch that Mercedes is a disappointment for me...
I don't know...pretty impressive that a drunk woman went through an L.A. intersection at 130 mph, killing 6 and smashing into a gas station, causing an inferno - and yet see what good shape her Mercedes E-Class Coupe was in AFTER all that...
Nurse was driving 130 mph when she allegedly killed six in fiery Los Angeles crash
” which was also the *higest* mover up”

What would you expect from a French (Renault) manufacturer?
Haha...yeah, but it was a Toyota pickup truck. They drowned it in the ocean, set it on fire, put it on top of a high-rise building being demolished/imploded, etc...put a good battery to it, started up every time!
Legend!
Have the opposite problem-barely anything is comfortable as I’m >6’ with long legs and my shoulders are 2’ wide

My Camry was built in Kentucky.
We’ve owned exactly one Toyota vehicle, a Sienna mini van. The engine was notorious for filling with sludge and blowing out huge clouds of blue smoke. We bought it new and never had any transmission work done. When we sold it, the buyers came back to us a few months later saying the dealer told them that the transmission ID tag did not match the rest of the car. They accused us of having swapped out the transmission for a much older one! The issue faded away and they stopped pestering us. Fortunately, they didn’t sue. That was REALLY weird.
First and last Toyota we ever owned.
Yep. BMW should be nesr the bottom. Their motorcycles too. CR has a history of faking results for political reasons.
Subaru WRX STI is fun but I named mine “the Blonde” as she is most happy when I spend lots of $$$ on her.
Built like tanks and an extremely comfortable ride.
1. Routine maintenance is expensive, but that is so with all German luxury brands.
2. Low profile tires. Early on, I drove over a pothole too fast and got a tire bubble. Had to have that tire replaced. Did not appreciate that. But lots of cars have LP tires these days.
3. Lots of warning lights come on for no good reason. There is a “coffee light” that often comes on — apparently, it thinks I am falling asleep at the wheel and need to take a break.
We’ve owned 3 Camrys since 2016. An ‘06, an ‘09 and now a 2022. We’ve put 550,000 miles on them. The ‘06 needed a water pump after about 150,000.
Other than that - nothing but routine maintenance.
I recently bought 2 cars, a 2006 Toyota RAV4 and a 2012 Scion xB, both with very low miles and from CA and AZ respectively. Neither of these has ever seen salted roads in winter, so off they went to Rust Check for undercoating. Hope to get many years of service out of both of them.
Careful shopping on Carfax made it all possible.
Maybe try the Telluride? It’s a spectacular vehicle but a tad too big for my wife who is over a foot shorter then you. Good luck.
Family bought a brand new Lexus SUV back in 1999 (with a trade in). It was expensive, but very well worth it. Fantastic vehicle. Definitely reliable. Mechanical problems were an incredible rarity. Usually all you had to do was regularly change the oil. I drove through vicious snowstorms (among other bad weather conditions) with that thing. I had such peace of mind going through those snowstorms knowing the Lexus was going to get me to my destination very comfortably and safely.
I’m still driving my 2006 Honda CRV. Never had a major repair yet. Mr. GG2 changes the tires, oil and brake pads. It runs like a champ.
Tesla WAS highest in Owner Satisfaction for many years. Not sure where they are now.
But that is a VERY odd measure.

6 used cars you SHOULD BUY according to the 20+ years of CAR WIZARD mechanic experience!
I have had 5 Mazda’s and never once did I ever have a problem with any of them.
