Re: 14 - Yeah, they can be, that’s for sure! I’ve had good success buying them off lease with some of the original car warranty left, then adding an extended warranty if I decide to keep for awhile. If not, even now selling at Carmax will still yield a good sale price. I don’t drive with my foot through the firewall (haha) and I think that helps with any car.

I do like seeing some older 90s and early 20s M-B sedans around. Have a few friends that have those “era” cars and no major problems and lots (250K+) of miles.

My rule on cars is I never buy anything new; in fact, I typically buy cars that are 6 or 7 years old with around 80K plus miles and if they don’t say “Toyota” or “Honda” on the name plate I pretty much do not even consider it. Buy it the Dave Ramsey way..........cash only....well not really but I usually finance the minimum amount and pay it off within a year.

Toyota is dropping the Avalon model name from the US lineup and replacing it with the Toyota Crown. I think this mostly gets them aligned with international nomenclature with the new version.

I am surprised there is so much space between Audi and VW.

Have you ever owned one? My current and 2 previous vehicles are MB. Never, ever had a problem with one.

Built like tanks and an extremely comfortable ride.

155k still solid ride, doors close heavy like bank vault doors, unlike Japanese steel, interior not as comfy as Tahoe was, typical of German engineering- great highway car, off road not so much (ML 350)

We’re a little biased towards Toyota because my wife is a Toyota engineer. They make great cars and trucks. I drove my first Tacoma for 19 years! The only issue I had was the AC compressor went about year 14 and I just didn’t bother to replace it.

4 years into into my second Tacoma and will gladly keep it another 15. Awesome truck. My kids drive a Camry for their school transportation, bought it used. No issues. My wife’s Lexus has been going strong for 17 years. Love not have car payments…

I add Moly-Kote (Molybdenum DiSulfide) to my freshly-changed 3,000 mile oil, to keep a lubrication coating on all metal parts. It’s black and looks like old oil, but smells distinctive and never overheats. The engine stays cool.

My previous 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo went 395,000 miles before an engine replacement was necessary.

I now have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Supercharged V8 HEMI, and use Moly in each 3,000 coil change.

I once owned a 2014 Mazda6 the only negatives with the car were cosmetic (Paint chips, plastic front fender peeling or tearing loose at the seams.) + it also burned oil which was visible in the spark plugs.

I had a Benz once - I was on a first name basis with the service manager. I made a point of dumping it before the warranty expired..

I’ve been driving the same Infiniti for 15 years, bought it new, change the oil and tires occasionally

What I especially like about BMW is that they throw in three years of schedule maintenance

After that, the normal servicing & repairs are VERY VERY costly and the reliability is iffy at best...and typical of German cars.

Like you, the BMW styling is ugly and reminiscent of 70s - kinda like all German cars.

Mazda, after jettison of Ford, has made huge strides in quality, styling and reliability.

The new generation Mazda3 interior (design & quality leather materials) is closer to BMW/MB than Audi/Acura.

“…395,000 miles before an engine replacement was necessary.“

What specifically went on the engine? I’ve got an 02 f350 superduty work truck getting up there and every time I turn the key in the morning I feel like I have the biggest balls in the world expecting it to start. But it does. Runs quietly and smoothly with power.

Interesting. My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been rock solid for 140,000+ miles. My 2019 Ford F150 not so much. Way too much time in the shop getting something fixed and less than 40k on it.

Selling it off as soon as it's back from the shop again. 12 times in 3 years is just too much.

I’m not shocked at all. Owned an AMG S-55 that was wondrous when everything was working. Problem was something was always going wrong with it. I swore off Mercedes for good and will never own another one. Every car I’ve had since then has been better. Acura Chevy etc all way better
It’s just the way it is those things are downright problematic and super duper expensive to get worked on out of warranty and ate tires like there was no tomorrow

I think Buick could rise up a few points higher on the list just by building what they used to build. True, it might not meet some gov’t. standards, but do you think the average driver really cares as long as it is comfortable, economical, & reliable. I surely would buy something like that if it’s priced affordably.

Glad to see BMW there. We have decided to sell our 22 KIA Telluride which we like but it’s a little big for my wife. So we ordered this......and it’s exactly like this even the engine. The M340i with almost 400 HP, Brookly gray, blacked out. We likey:

Tesla USED to be near the top of the list...until Musk became the new favorite target of the Left.
