The claim is now everywhere:
We had to lock down because we just didn’t know about this virus.
It was all very confusing and we had to play it safe.
We had no other option because we just had no clarity about what we were dealing with.
The precautionary principle dictated the unprecedented actions.
Actually, the precautionary principle goes both directions.
It also dictates that we not enact policies that we know for sure would wreck lives and liberties. They did it anyway, without sufficient knowledge that the measures would achieve any positive good.
We approach the third year and people have forgotten that all the harms of lockdowns were strongly warned about by many voices in many venues. In addition, the virus was much better understood back then and openly discussed. We knew for certain that the panic and fear were being wildly overblown.
Below follows resources assembled by the ‘Robber Baron‘ and many others who write for the Brownstone Institute. These citations from newspapers, magazines, academic journals and interviews, with many respected voices, show that we certainly knew tremendous amounts in the early days.
All the warnings and information were readily available to anyone paying attention.

May 1: Indications from Europe that lockdowns are ineffective
We certainly live in an age of short attention span but many these signs and warnings came weeks or months before the world locked down and they chronicled the damage as it was happening.
Why all this came to be completely ignored remains the burning question.

Who is 'they'?
The lockdowns all came at the local, or at worst the state, level.
And many came from the business owners.
It's important to be specific.
business owners shut down voluntarily?
The Chinese communist party did it first and released all those videos of people “dropping dead” on the streets. And our idiot government, cheered on by Fauci said we couldn’t possibly do less.
Absolutely. Thousands of them.
No one forced the NBA, NHL, concert promoters, etc. etc. to shut down.
If you look back to early/mid 2020 you’ll see all kinds of businesses voluntarily shutting down.
If for no other reason than their customers weren’t about to go out in public.
Don’t know anything about this virus?? Bullshit. Half of cold and flu virii are Corona. What they knew is they needed an excuse to trash the economy and to allow vote by mail. Besides, if they didn’t know anything, how do they justify unprecedented measures like quarantine and like rigging cause of death reporting?
Cognitive Dissonance?
They willingly shut down because their customers couldn't shop because those customers were locked down by government? There's no willingly there at all.
Thank you. Great list. I concluded in September 2021 that the covid myth was based on greed and fear. Moderna made billions and Fauci, Draszak and Zhengli (bat lady) were afraid that their construction of sars-cov would become known. Amazing how many people were unable to be thoughtful while the covid myth dominated tv, newspapers, radio news and emails. Humbling how a little virus can turn everyone’s world upside down.
They claim they didn't know about the virus but:
-They somehow knew masks specifically marked as not capable of protecting wearers worked against it.
-They somehow knew that distancing 6 feet would prevent its spread.
-They somehow knew untested medical shots would prevent its transmission and prevent those who got the shot from catching COVID-1984.
-They somehow knew that Democrat rioters and people packed into subway cars couldn't spread COVID-1984 but in-person voters definitely would.
-They somehow knew that Ivermectin and HCQ didn't work against it.
-They somehow knew that sending infected senior citizens into nursing homes wouldn't infect and kill other patients.
-They somehow knew that Congress couldn't be infected with it, nor spread it, and could be exempted from their own mandates.
-They somehow knew that the virus could be transmitted by people who traveled through legitimate ports of entry but millions of illegal aliens crossing the border would not spread it.
-They somehow knew that passengers on commercial flights could spread the virus so they needed to get the Jim Jones Jab but corporate jet passengers and crew couldn't.
-They somehow knew with 100% certainty that it didn't come from a lab.
-They somehow knew that animals needed the Jim Jones Jab to prevent its spread.
Excellent.
It was known early on.
“ Why all this came to be completely ignored remains the burning question. ”
Suppressed and censored. Worse than ignored.
However, I can't help but feel those links are cherry picked to support a particular narrative.
For example, Fauci's February statement that it was no worse than the Flu was contradicted at the time by statements coming out of foreign countries where it was determined to be significantly worse than the flu.
And Fauci subsequently admitted he was wrong and that it was much deadlier than the flu.
I think it's safe to say that we didn't "know" much. And much of what we "knew" was wrong. Such as how to treat Severe respiratory distress.
The WHO also warned against travel restrictions, but travel restrictions helped slow the spread into the US and gave us time to obtain samples and start researching.
That also gave us time to learn that treatment for this is different that traditional treatment for Severe Respiratory Distress.
Fauci also reversed his position on masks. Although an astute observer would have noticed that his initial position that masks were dangerous was contradictory to the second part of that initial position that masks needed to be saved for front line workers.
To this day, the most respected US major medical organizations still recommended masks, and many freepers and anti-vaxers are vehemently against them. So what do we "know"?
I know what I think I know. But the only thing I'll say we "know" as a nation is that this was and still is a total mess.
Nope
Businesses were told comply or be fined into oblivion
I remember the early days. Some cities ordered plenty of businesses to close and they couldn’t reopen until they took measures to reduce contact with patrons and patrons among one another. That’s where all the plexi at counters and social distance circles came from.
In the early days, only a few types of “essential” businesses could remain open while those measures were implemented. Grocery stores and gas stations, chiefly. Some restaurants stayed open by being takeout only. Some set up tables in parking lots to conform to the social distancing edicts.
Many large businesses divided their employees among “essential” and “non-essential.”
It’s true that measures were enacted and enforced differently depending on where in the country you went. Largely, small town and remote rural areas saw the very least intrusions into daily life. And residents would flout the mask and distancing rules put in place. The measures were more draconian and penalties more secere in the big cities. I recall stories out of New York where families were chased out of parks or arrested on beaches for not wearing masks. Restaurants closed when snitches told the police mask-wearing and social distancing rules were not rigidly enforced.
Fierce debates on the “It’s just the flu, bro” threads. If it was all “voluntary” and “your choice” that’s not how it worked in cities with six-digit populations.
Zackly.
What I know is that for the first time in history, the healthy and able were “quarantined” and kept away from productive work for the sake of the sick. People died of their comorbities _with_ covid. Relatively few people died _of_ covid.
I know a lot “experts” that told me lock-down, mask up, sit down, and shut up did no such thing themselves. They were long on rules and short on following them themselves. Nanzi and her hairdresser. Gavin and friends and their French Bread restaurant: maskless and not distanced. Dr. Birx travelling for Thanksgiving while telling everyone else to stay home. Fredo caught out of Covid quarantine and making a big show of emerging later on. His brother, Governor “Kodos” Cuomo, sending Covid patients into nursing homes while turning away a hospital ship sent by the President.
Those are the ready ones off the top of my head!
Everything you needed to know about the “pandemic”: their lockdown rules were crushing to the People and the economy and a fat, effing joke to them. Lying hypocrites, every one of them. Fauci at the top.
Yup, we ruined all our lives in a panic. The left / WEF got just what they wanted.
Time for payback.
No prisoners. And why not?
