Independent Women Swing Hard Toward GOP Despite Democrats’ Abortion Push
Yahoo News ^ | October 17, 2022 | Isaac Schorr

Republicans made massive gains with independent women in recent weeks as Democrats ramped up their messaging on abortion ahead of the midterm elections.

Forty-nine percent of voters plan to vote for the Republican nominee to represent their House district while 45 percent said they’d back their Democratic opponent, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday. Of particular note was a 32 point swing among independent women toward the GOP. In September’s iteration of the poll, Democrats boasted a 14 point lead among that demographic, but by October, Republicans held an 18 point advantage.

While Democratic officials and progressive commentators had suggested that the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade might lessen the expected electoral blow of the midterms, the swing toward the GOP among independent women — the group most heavily targeted by Democratic strategists — suggests that their focus on abortion might be to their own detriment.

In a TV segment last month, Republican operative Matt Gorman was rebuked by his fellow panelists for suggesting that abortion “is not in the top four of issues.”

Yamiche Alcindor of PBS and NBC insisted that on the campaign trail “abortion comes up 90 percent of the time” when she speaks with voters. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat and former senator who lost her re-election bid in 2016, shouted over other guests to declare “I hope Matt keeps saying that everywhere he goes — that abortion isn’t really an issue here in this election. I think it is exactly what infuriates women when they hear that.”

Democrats spent 73 million on messaging ads about abortion in September, which is “about a third of all Democratic television ad spending,” per NPR.

But it's coming from National Review which has historically been a republican-supporting pub.

And historically New England was conservative.

If we don’t clean up the massive election fraud seen in 2020, none of these polls will mean anything as the results will be decided by the voting fraud again. People need to stop doing the same thing and hoping for a different result on election night, or the following days.

The echo chamber is real, and in the leafy, liberal suburbs the activist wine moms ARE up in arms about the Dobbs decision, and so the Democrats decided that was the issue they were going to hammer.

To the tune of 73 million dollars.

Their problem is that the activist base was already with them on the issue, and by talking (and lying) incessantly, while ignoring the bonfire in everyone’s 401K account, spiking inflation, and an out of control border they have revealed their fundamental unseriousness. Well, that’s the best spin that can be put on it. Most of the normies I know are hopping mad about those real-life issues and are not interested in any academic discussions about climate change or listening to more lies about abortion.

This will be an issue in some swing states, but it just doesn’t seem to have sufficient salience to animate any large voting blocks on the left.

The phrase "independent women" is a misnomer.

Think about all the women who get fake college degrees being taught that they're learning to "think independently" when they're really being brainwashed into believing whatever the Dim mantra should be.

“Independent” women pay their own bills.

And prices are up, up, up!

Or maybe these women finally realized that overturning Roe just made abortion a states-right issue and not the hand maiden’s tale that the lefties were telling them would happen.

Agree

Abortion Push is about the government paying for it not the right to have it some states allow it now they are on the hook for it.

That's pretty much what I figure. The defeat of Roe v. Wade probably infuriated the abortion on demand fanatics, but for most other fairly reasonable women it may have turned into something of a non-issue, at least on a political level. As has been pointed out, there are a lot more other things to them that are more pressing issues-- like paying your bills, putting groceries on the table, gas prices, and protecting your children. The abortion Boogie Man spell may finally be broken. Let's keep praying.

If Yahoo, NYT, and Sienna (rabid Communists) are saying this, it is all over for the Dems. Mitch McConnell and Coco Chiu should start measuring the drapes for the Senate Majority leader’s office.

Don’t waste your time on the never Trumpers at NatReview. Go straight to the Marxists at the NYT poll details here: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/10/17/upshot/times-siena-poll-likely-voters-crosstabs.html

I think that they’re largely the same demographic. But the key here, from the pollster’s standpoint, is they’re registered voters who are neither Republican nor Democrat. They tick the “independent”, “unaffiliated”, or “decline to state” box on the voter reg card.

These are the morons who “vote for the person, not the party”, or alternatively vote a particular issue as the mood strikes them. The news here is that it’s a 32 point swing, going from supporting the Dems based on the early messaging about abortion, to strongly supporting the Reps based on the terrible economy. And the wind spilling out of the abortion sails.

Is it possible that public opinion polls on abortion have been wrong for a long time?

Americans: "We're greatly concerned about this record inflation, chaos at the southern border and rampant crime in our cities!"

Democrats: "F*%k you! We have to combat climate change, protect women's 'reproductive rights', and give citizenship to dreamers and asylum seekers. Oh! And another $100 billion to Ukraine!"

Americans: "Wait...what?!"

Democrats: "SHUT UP YOU STUPID MAGA FASCISTS!!!"

Yacmiche is one who will never have to worry about needing an abortion (barring the unfortunate involvement of a turkey baster)
