I apologize for the Vanity upfront. That said, can we come up with a list of movies that don't lecture about climate, race, abortion 'rights', sexuality, intolerance, 'migrants' etc.? I fully realize there are lots of crucial issues facing all of us and that this is not that important, but when occasionally looking for at least an hour or two of escape it would be nice to not have to be assaulted by the left's agenda.
Forces spéciales French 2011
I can’t believe that no one has mentioned this one;
The best movie of all time;
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Crocodile Dundee.
The Ten Commandments.
The Out of Towners.
The Magic Christian.
The original Bedazzled 1968 Dudley Moore and Peter Cook.
Hombre.
High Noon.
Invitation to a Gunfighter.
Jose Ferrer’s 1950 Cyrano D’Bergerac.
The Caine Mutiny.
The Scalphunters (Bert Lancaster, Ozzie Davis, Telly Savalas)
The Gods Must Be Crazy
Forbidden Planet 1956 (First serious adult syfy)
The Naked Prey
Shake Hands With The Devil (arguably Cagney’s best work. The title refers to the Irish saying, “If you shake hands with the Devil, he’ll never let go.”)
Cactus Jack (AKA The Villain) (You’ll roll on the floor!)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920 (Silent must watch to the end to see its reality)
The Thief of Baghdad Sabu 1940 (Later remade as the animated
“Aladdin”)
ATTACK! Jack Palance, Lee Marvin, Buddy Ebsen, Eddie Albert, and more. Great WWII film.
The Story of G.I. Joe WWII movie, set in Italy, so real you can smell it.
That’s a fair Baker’s Dozen + 5. Start with the first you haven’t seen, and GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACK. Enjoy! These are all GREAT! I’m sure they’re all available on line somewhere.
Wargames and The Outsider
Grumpy Old Men
Midnight Run
Midnight Run
Great stuff here. Thanks, all!
I’m glad you listed ATTACK with Jack Palance. Despite some poor modelling and special effects, it was a super movie. BIRTH OF A NATION, 1915, was not woke at all. THE OUT OF TOWNERS, with Sandy Dennis had her great bathtub speech that placed suburban fly-over-country values over big city sophisto values.
Strange Brew and Canadian Bacon
:D
DOG
Cry Macho
The Alamo (1999 version with Billy Bob Thornton)
Sling Blade
I so admire Robert Duvall. Some of my favorite movies and roles include him. I just love his style and persona.
Some of my favorites are “Open Range”, “Lonesome Dove”, “True Grit”, “The Godfather”, “The Great Santini”, “Second Hand Lions”, and even “Jack Reacher”.
I have gotten so much enjoyment watching him play roles.
“The Great Santini” was so good, but so disturbing. “Tender Mercies” also was good. Such different characters; he has a good range.
Good morning! Absolutely...he can play bad guys, good guys, crazy guys, tough guys, all with the same aplomb!
Glad to see a fellow fan of that movie! It is so unknown to many.
Are they making new episodes of Mystery Science Theater? Or are they thinking the old ones? I’ll bet we FReepers could put together some kick-ass episodes - some very clever people here.
