EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

“I’m pretty sure it’s the gastric bypass that is making her so cranky.”

Did she have the surgery yet, or is she preparing for it? Either way, I expect it’s uncomfortable.

Abbie had the surgery about 3-4 weeks ago, and we’ve all tried to be supportive and have asked her questions about the procedure and what she can and can’t eat and for how long, so that she can be included in the meals, and not feel like she has to watch us eat. I suspect she was used to just grazing all day long and this has been a rather abrupt change for her.

It was obvious to me from some of the things she said that she didn’t like the restrictions on her eating habits. But, they want a family, and if she doesn’t lose weight, I don’t think a family will ever happen for them. So she takes it out on those around her.

If she doesn’t stick to the regimen they have her on, I suspect she is in pain rather than discomfort, and she may be angry with herself, which makes her lash out at others.

That’s how I see it, but I may be out in Left Field.

Good job! We’re all riding the Four Train today, and that’s an oddity. ;o]

Poor thing. It’s a difficult situation to be in, and it’s hard to change a lifetime of eating habits.

I succeeded in finding pants for Frank.

Yeah, I feel bad for her but I can’t help her in any way. She has to want to do it, and I think it’s something she’s doing because she feels she has to do. Not because she really wants to.

Also, I think I would have asked what the side effects were before I ever undertook something as life-altering as this, and then asked if counseling were available, in case things went south in a hurry.

When I’m depressed, I have a hard time watching my food intake, but when the depression is finally gone (again) I can take control of my eating habits. I empathize with her, but as I say, I think this is not her first choice.

My foot-intake-watching has gone to pieces the last three weeks, but maybe I’ll recover next week.

Good for you finding pants for Frank!!

I’ve been trying to get things together for the “party” this afternoon, and it’s making me tired already.

So for the next 30 minutes, I’m taking a break.

We need to leave at 1:45. I’ll wear a skirt and blouse and take an apron just in case.

Congratulations to Anoreth! (And the mother of the bride!)

Just think...you will have another (responsible) son!

I just got a text from PW that this evening’s festivities are postponed until January when James and Abbie get back from their trip to Utah. No explanation. But it’s just as well. The rest of us will open our presents on Christmas Day, after church, which will be at 1000 and no meetings afterwards.

Last night was miserable for me, having had two episodes of insomnia, one early on and one after 0100. I’m tired, I’m achy, and probably on the verge of cranky, but I DO have a ride to church in the morning.

Only one more Sunday after this of late Sacrament Service and then we’re back to 0900. And because of my loyal friends in Hurricane, I’m informed that their meeting will start at noon on Sunday, January 1. Unngh! And I thought it was hard here!

All in all, we’re pleased with how it went. Kind of loud, but not as loud as a Quinceanera. Dion’s friends and family gave testimonials about him, and I feel much more secure about his being a decent person, not that I really thought Anoreth would pick a lemon, but it happens ...

Patrick is supposed to come over on Monday morning to get a brother who will help him take care of Anoreth’s old dog. I’ll send you some snaps (not very good ones) tomorrow.

How long have they dated? It seems like he would have shown his true colors by now, regardless. I wish them the best. None of us really know what we’re getting, but at best, it will always be a work in progress.

Janie is wishing me a kitteh, like very soon. Not as much as I am! I’ll take an old cat. Or an older one, at least.

That’s about how long it’s been (this time) for me with that hand-to-mouth response to anxiety. I’m starting to feel uncomfortable in my clothes, so I really need to do something to make me feel comfortable again.

Anyway, I’m off to bed. Again. I’m too cold to sit here any longer.

Then they should know each other quite well. Well enough to work at it, anyway.

I hope your anxiety and mine disappear soon.
