EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners
DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.
From FaceBook:
Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

Great game!
That’s kind of the way mine went this morning, but you managed to get there faster than I did.
I left a bag of books when I stopped at the library after physical therapy. The Advent Kitty was not satisfied with my cleaning efforts, but it’s okay. I don’t want pretzels if I’m going to lose another 20 lbs. I have another bag of clothes in the van, and I’ll get them to Goodwill when I pass by during open hours.
The kids and I are off to the farm this morning. Mrs. Stone had a TIA (mini-stroke) last week - not the first one she’s had - and her children want her to move to Tennessee to live with one of them, so I think we’ll be helping her sort some stuff. It’s sad, because she loves her farm, but it’s not safe for her to be alone there, so it will be for the best, I hope.
If her kids want her, it’s the best thing she could do. She’s luckier than she knows. TIAs are nothing to sneeze at, and it’s good that her kids are willing to care for her.
If I hadn’t forced the issue with my FS, I wouldn’t be here, but I felt the need to be close to him. The feeling isn’t mutual, though. So the best thing I can do is exactly what I’m doing — making like a tree and leaving.
I may suggest there is a difference between her kids wanting her and her kids knowing that they need her to be nearer.
Mrs. ArGee is finding that she can spend less and less time with her father, although I think he’s getting worse as his ability to do things for himself declines.
And I’m not meaning to suggest that Face might be hard to spend time with. Just suggesting that the invitation isn’t necessarily an invitation to Paridise.
I do not know the details of family relationships, but the daughter in Tennessee stayed with Mrs. Stone for a couple of months after Mr. Stone died. This implies an adequate level of getting-along.
We were there just over an hour, and then she said she needed to rest. She has heart issues as well as the recent TIA.
FS and his PW are far too selfish to allow me into their lives, ArGee, and they told me so when they pretty much banished me from their home before my apartment was habitable. They didn’t care about my history of COPD (Pertussis, asthma, Valley Fever, asbestos exposure all exacerbated by 20 years of smoking) or the fact that I couldn’t breathe in here. “We’re selfish and want to be alone.”
I’ve asked little of them since moving here and even less since I know how little they really want to do for me. Once I realized that I didn’t HAVE to stay here, the decision to leave was easy.
I am, in real life, as I am on FR, and T-c can probably attest to this.
Considering my age, chronic illness and arthritis, I think I do quite well, though CFIDS is the worst of all of it.
And no, ArGee, I didn’t expect it to be Paradise, but I certainly didn’t expect the shameful way I’ve been treated. FS knows better, but PW has managed to change him in ways I never knew were possible. Now, I find excuses not to be with them except on a limited basis. Self-preservation.
It breaks my heart, but he is doing what he wants to do.
She might have had a stressful time over Thanksgiving, so resting would be a good thing. I always know when my heart is acting up because it makes me very tired. I’m glad she has children who care.
Oddly enough, it is my rebellious daughter who has decided to love her mom, and sends me a text every day or so to say “good morning.” There may not be any other conversation, but she lets me know she thinks of me, and that’s much more than I get from FS. If I don’t see him at church, her texts to me are about a 12-1 ratio of his.
My vacuum is finally fixed: my Riccar, the love of my life! It’s been in the shop since late August! Tom and Vlad have gone to pick it up.
I almost cried when I got the text. I thought I would never see it again.
Oh, yes! I remember when you got it. I also remember when you sent it to the shop. Gloriosky, I’m glad it’s coming home!
It would have been OK to cry about that, it’s such a blessing to have in your home. IIRC, it’s the best vacuum you’ve ever had.
I’m glad you were able to avert catastrophe.
If it ever comes down to it, we’ve been pretty happy with Miele.
Yes, it is. The Dyson does not compare!
Elen, USMC, was just asking me the other day if I wanted her to get me a new one, but I said no, I would wait.
I just have a Bissell. I have about 12 square feet of floor space to vacuum, and only about 3’ of it gets any traffic to speak of.
Good for Elen, USMC!!
I have a carpet sweeper for in-between times. It works, and isn’t heavy. The only drawback is that I often forget how to run the Bissell. I mean, how can anyone do that?
There was a card from you in today’s mail. The Informed Delivery didn’t show it, this morning, the silly people.
My stamps came, but I somehow don’t think they will be enough, and now, I dunno...folks from Out West are waiting to hear from me at Christmas.
Ohwell. It wouldn’t be the first time word of my survival wasn’t made known to all and sundry.
We had a LG stick vacuum that was battery operated for a while. It charged while it was in its stand so it was always ready for use.
I liked it but Mrs. ArGee thought it didn’t clean deep enough, so back to the plug-in cannister vac.
A bit of a tricky one today
I guessed this 5-letter word in 4/6 tries.
⬛🟩⬛⬛⬛
⬛🟩⬛⬛⬛
⬛🟩🟨🟨⬛
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
Lost 7fs between yesterday and today. And a rather insistent breeze has come up to help the Fs that remain better penetrate fall clothing.
I have the cats, the hairbros, and many eaters.
Yes, indeed you do!
And none of them make corrections in their gravity checks. So yes, I’m very glad you have the Riccar back!
Did the repair shop have to wait for a part? Or are they just extremely busy?
I’m not a messy person, normally, but with CFIDS, I tend to clutter because I don’t always feel up to cleaning. It gets done — just not right away.
So I try to keep the most important places clean — like the entryway. Most people don’t get past there, anyway, because the place is so small.
You want this, ArGee?
