My heart is heavy. My older brother fell asleep suddenly in the LORD yesterday morning. We are awaiting word on cause of death. He was found could and unresponsive in his chosen place of rest.
The oldest of four siblings, he left his remaining three siblings in mourning, together with a wife and three children, and two fabulous Aussies whom he cherished.
Nicknamed "Clyde" but known as Cboldt to all y'all, he blazed a trail three years ahead of me, excelling in engineering and law. Later in life we would spend hours talking about everything from theology to science and everything in between. I would ask the questions, and he would wax wise. It was his taste in music that exposed me to a wide variety of styles and artists.
Also later in life he became greatly thankful, often and continually expressing wonder at the creation and life's simple blessings. He expressed some disillusionment with his modest material acquisitions and was in the process of arranging their disbursement to his wife and children. He was active in his local parish, helping services continue remotely in the face of prohibitions due to the pandemic.
As of Friday evening/morning he was visiting his younger brother and mother in NC, having determined to stay there as long as it takes to minister to our mother as she is approaching her final days under hospice care. He told me all about the Scripture Readings, Prayers, Hymns, and good cheer spoken aloud at her bedside, and said he had not smiled so long and so hard in all his life.
I was with him Thursday morning when my family left NC for VA to visit elderly father-in-law. He prayed aloud for us as we were leaving. Among the last things we did together, besides reminisce as far back and forward as we could, was sing "Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness" and the "Te Deum" at Mom's bedside. I'm afraid the minor shift in the Te Deum had us both sounding poorly when it comes to intonation.
I will miss my brother more than words can say. Those of you who have lost dear ones know what it is like. LORD, have mercy!
I am so sorry for your loss. God speed Cboldt.
I am sorry for your loss, but was uplifted by your wonderful eulogy. Blessings upon your entire family in this time of hardship.
He has run the good race, Amen.
May the Lord rest Clyde’s soul and give comfort to all who knew and loved him.
Prayers up!
Sorry to hear that, we shall miss his patriotism. Glad that he departed with the Lord by his side though. I hope I am so fortunate. 🙂
Prayers up!
I have enjoyed his posts over the years and will miss him. Good man.
John 16:22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
God keep you all.
Very sorry for your loss… God bless..
So sad. Prayers for you and your family.
I remember Cboldt well. He was very informative and well-composed. We sparred at times, but he always comported himself as a gentleman.
May his soul rejoice as his hand is taken and he is led by Our Sweet Lord and Savior Jesus to the Hereafter.
God bless your brother Clyde.
Very sorry to hear this. You both have been core members here, IMO. Didn’t know you were family.
My prayers are with you and your family. He was a brilliant man, and will be missed here on this earth. Thankfully his thoughts will be preserved here at FR, but Our Heavenly Father had greater needs for him at this time. God Bless.
What a wonderful life he must have lived, with a great extended family that he resided in surrounded by love. My condolences.
RIP Clyde, enjoyed the discussions we had over the years.
My condolences to you and the entire Cboldt family.
Very nice to share a glimpse of your lives together.
Lovely eulogy, you all must be in shock. I suppose he might have gone to prepare a place for you in your father’s house. But, damn!
