Sunday morning 6:50AM -
Started my day by making a cup of coffee.
The blinds were slightly open - I could see out.
I saw movement out of the corner of my eye -
Not A deer - BUT TWO young does happily munching my tomato plants.
DANG-IT!
In my current locale I am not going to open fire on them
and risk the neighbors calling law enforcement -
discharging a gun HERE is sort of illegal.
"BUT OFFICER, IT WAS SELF DEFENSE! The deer were threatening me!!"
No, no - not going to go there...
So I go out the door and yell: "HEY! GET OUT!!!"
One deer ran away immediately.
The other cocked it head to the side (with a tomato in mouth)
and stared at me.
I begin advancing, while yelling and waving my arms -
the deer drops the tomato, retreats 30 feet, stops at
the edge of the woods - and stares at me.
I advanced again - and the deer runs off to join the other one it the woods.
So - short of firearms/explosives/poisons/20-foot tall fences -
HOW CAN I REPEL THESE INFERNAL BEASTS?
Ideas anybody?
What form of lycanthropy do you have? Werewolf? Bear?
Our English Lab must be part goat, because she steals green beans and cucumbers from our garden. We have a fence to keep her out and she chases off the deer.
Tgree ways that work, use them seperately or all together:
1) An old folk remedy that works.
Save human urine and place in a clean discarded milk jug. Do not dilute. The urine, when sprayed or sprinkled around plants weekly will prevent them from eating the plants.
The rain wasjes it away and does not harm any plants that may be harvested, a simple washing cleans them up.
This has worked in Canada, USA and in Japan against deer that enter gardens to eat produce.
2) The other thing that works is to put a dog in your garden at night, if it is fenced in , this works quite well.Even if the dog is little, the bark simply puts the deer off their food.
3) Finally there is the ancient remedy that worlks quite well. It a small clicking fountain called Shishi odoshi. It spooks deer and keeps them away. Shishi odoshi can be ordered in online.

I have also had success against critters by wrapping chicken wire around the tomato cages. I make sure to bend the loose points outward in a direction that will be sure to greet the critter if they try to snack on the garden.
Yeah well that’s HIGHLY illegal with thousands in fines and even fined additionally for each point a Buck has.
It’s also disgusting.
A friend had this problem and installed a motion activated sprinkler. He also put a camera in place to watch what happens, and it definitely works….when the sprinkler goes off right next to the deer they bolt and then stay away for many days.
None- human pee- and it works...

Are you sure the deer are eating the tomato plants?
My experience is most animals don’t eat tomato plants. Usually insects, large tomato worms.
If you’re sure it’s deer, buy some coyote piss.
Electric fences work. This seems a good and efficient design.
Another suggestion...
Visit YouTube and search for “deer fence fish line”. Look for the videos that detail the use of 30lb fish line.
I’ve used 30lb fish line on those green steel fence stakes successfully around our bushes in the front yard. Something about 30lb specifically. Deer can’t see it and it spooks them when they press into it. They won’t jump over it because they don’t know how high it is. It’s strong enough to not break. The fence is also somewhat invisible to the neighbors.
Did I mention...I hate deer?
I have 3 large German Shepherds.
The deer sleep around near the house because they’re not afraid of the dogs anymore and the dogs keep coyotes, bears and big cats away.
Human urine repels them. We have started using urine for fertilizer this yr. It is advised on several Forums. Diluted right it is good stuff. So buy a camp toilet. WalMart sells a snap on lid for a 5 gallon bucket cheap. Our grass has never been better and saved buying the expensive chemicals.
Anyway because of this we have not had the deer problems that we normally have here. Not applied directly to plants but as a pre emergent. We also have an 8 ft electric deer fence but some things are outside the fence.
The deer do come right up to the house and irritate the chihuahuas and raid the bird feeders but so far they are staying away from the gardens.
Yep, my Beagle loves cucumbers, carrots, all kinds of vegetables. He’s probably eating more healthy than me.
Our family had a vineyard surrounded by woods. Deer were a major problem. Hair, urine, blood, etc. did not work. A three d electric fence solved the problem. The charger as a quarter mile away, therefore no chance of hearing the clicks.
The fence must have depth to work. We used long tee posts driven at about a 45 degree angle. Buy the hottest fence charger you can find (be ready to spend a couple hundred bucks). Drive at least four six foot ground rods, and water the grounds every week.
Just be careful not to take all advice given here.
Apparently some here think Poaching is ok.
You need a hunting license and only hunt during the correct season.
Here in Northern Michigan, if you start shooting deer eating from your garden that you can secure with chicken wire, you’d be run out of town.
People hunt up here for meat, for their food.
Killing deer and letting them go to waste gives real hunters a bad name.
I've got raccoons who are at least that smart (smarter than me at least).
Mine eat raspberries. Oh well I’ve got plenty.
