A few things I learned by quitting alcohol:
Drinking doesn't help get you through depressing times. Alcohol is what makes them depressing.Each day without alcohol is better than the one before because you just keep feeling better and better.
The guilt goes away and is replaced by self-respect and pride.
You realize that you were a drug addict (alcohol is a drug)...and that your health will return (really! brain plasticity is real).
Being in control is wonderful. Being drunk is embarrassing.
It's a lot easier to quit drinking than you think it is. It does take work, but it is the most rewarding work you have ever done.
It is one of the most loving things you can do for your family.
The urge to drink will eventually go away and you will find life is manageable after all. In fact, life becomes fun again even if you can't remember it ever being fun.
There is life--real life--after getting sober. Life is still trouble, but sobriety feels so good that you don't care.
You will find that sobriety brings wisdom that never-drinkers don't have. That's what happens when you fight a battle (sobriety) and win. The fight/victory has a wisdom attached to it.
If you were liberal I’d say go for it.
If we didn’t have Trump, we’d be in a hurt.

He has not given up.. he is getting stronger than ever. Your anger, mixed with the rest of us and our frustrations.. we are stronger than we were...
As hard as its been, by going thru the past 2 years, many more have waked up from comfort, and got angry also.
We are united.. they are in panic mode..
The unequal justice.. the constant harassment.. works on our fairness gene.
But I do believe this has hit Trump’s endurance on trying... I believe when he gets back in, he will dissolve the f b I and clean up the dregs and the mess.
No hesitation.. it will be swift.
And lastly.. I believe God chose Trump to save this nation.. because He knew Trump could withstand what was going to follow.
Its a spiritual war... evil wanting control and the good people not gonna let it happen.

I hope you are not too far down the drinking road...as in years or decades.
But if you are, there is still hope.
You are gonna have to dig deep to get away from it. And as someone mentioned upthread, you may need medical supervision during that process.
We are all terribly worried about our individual futures and the future of our country for posterity. You are not alone even though you may think that. It takes courage, but reach out to someone. I think that’s why you posted this thread. You know it’s not the answer. And as you can see, total strangers showed up to offer words of encouragement and advice and friendship. Best to you.

With all the outrageous things occurring on a daily basis it’s hard not to get angry. I’ve learned to control it and live with it. I wish I could tell you how.
Alcohol is the rapid route to depression. Alcohol is a depressant. Avoid it except at meals or in a celebratory situation.
Talk to other Freepers who share your anger over what has happened, but who don’t share your depression.
We need local groups who get together over coffee to bitch and moan about the fascists who are now in charge.

This is the most opportunistic time to prepare for the next tidal wave coming! The strong willed will survive and The Lord will Bless those who follow His edits.

Read all of Psalm 91. Don’t give into the wicked enemy. They are cannon fodder and will be utterly destroyed.
In college during the 80’s I found myself and many others using alcohol, MJ, or both. I decided to stick with one and continue to limit the other.
One is harmless and not physically addictive except for a short-term lowering of IQ ~10 pts (yes, agreed some can not afford to add to their stupidity) while the other is highly addictive to some, kills all living cells that it comes in contact with, and severely lowers IQ and autonomy to the point of total loss of bodily control and memory.
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Philippians 4:13. Give your thirst for alcohol to Christ. And don’t take it back.
You need to drink from the cup of the Lord. If you do you will learn that the Lord is giving you the greatest opportunity to see what happens when you allow man to rule the world, Return to the Lord and you will find salvation & happiness. 🙂
If you’re even one-tenth serious, don’t. Or, at least try something quicker and more pleasant.
My SIL had a fatal bleed from her stomach due to varicose veins from undiagnosed cirrhosis. A horror show way to go.
Best advice/encouragement already given by other FReepers.
Being angry and upset just proves you are wired correctly.
Hang in there, even in our present unhappiness, so you can witness the better days ahead. We still need you here.
