Classic rocker David Crosby kicked a virtual hornets’ nest on Saturday when he complained about the quality of a portrait a fan shared on Twitter, calling it the “weirdest” painting of himself that he had ever seen.
Crosby — formerly of the folk rock group Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young — took things a step further, telling the artist not to give up his day job for a career in art.
“Hi @thedavidcrosby hope you are keeping well. Did a picture of you…. Thanks for the music,” the artist captioned his work.
“That is the weirdest painting of me. I have ever seen …..don’t quit your day job ……” Crosby replied.
“How’s this one, Dave? I just drew it quick, with the look on your face when you realize you may have come across like an asshole here,” @deebsFLA replied, sharing another drawing.
“Crosby, still an a**,” author Kealan Patrick Burke added.
Bill Corbett, “Mystery Science Theater 3000” alum, quipped, “Send up the Phoebe Bridgers bat-signal.”
“El contexto,” he added, referencing the time Bridgers called Crosby a “b****.”
“Bro you should be thankful you’re still getting fanart, I thought you were dead,” @girldrawsghosts added.
Other responses included:
@miffythegamer: “Such low rent behaviour to see an artist who got to where he wanted to be and who then tries to knock the self confidence out of another artist who was kind enough to paint him. Graceless and tacky.” @charley_ck: “Teach your children to not be David Crosby. #dontbeadavid” @smc429: “This is the nastiest, most ungrateful comment I’ve seen on this forum. It would behoove David to grasp the content of humility and gratitude. In addition, he lost a fan.” @edanclay: “David Crosby being a complete a**hole to one of his fans for no reason whatsoever just emphasizes how screwed up social networking can be. The art was cool and David Crosby just proved to the world he ain’t!” @billywaynedavis: “‘Sending David Crosby weirder paintings of him than this challenge’ begins now.” The artist in question came out of the exchange relatively unscathed — and offered a response: “After yesterday’s somewhat lively discussion on subjectivity in art appreciation, I’d just like to say thank you to the all the new followers and those who took the time to leave comments. Best wishes.”
It looks like him. Maybe that’s what bothers him.
A case of, like the music, can’t stand the musicians.
As far as the second picture....it worked for Al Hirschfeld. Hows about drawing a nice picture of Crosby’s liver, the new one,not the old one.
Crosby blew out his kidneys (or was it his liver?) from his days as an addict. He got a transplant and it saved his life.
But his brain is about like Timothy Leary's brain, viz. burned out after all that LSD. Can they transplant brains? Cause Crosby needs one.
Sort of fits the music.
(I really thought Crosby was deceased. Kidney or something I heard)
For sure.....................
Crosby Steals the Cash
If anything, the picture is an overly flattering one of this loser.
What a waste of a perfectly good donated liver! His surgeon deserves a punch in the mouth, LOL!
Not to mention, he (artificially) sired two, maybe three kids for a nutcase lesbian female singer. I forget her name. She’s not leaving any legacy either, obviously.
When even Graham Nash hates your guts, that’s saying something.
Some people have really lousy taste in musicians.
k.d. lang?....................
Agreed, Steven Stills has more talent in his little pinky than Crosby has in his whole body (even with the new liver).
He’s still alive? Thought he died in liver disease or such.
AFAIK, Timothy Leary wasn’t an a-hole...................
