A diesel shortage -- our next crisis du jour?

It’s one thing for truckers to pass on their high fuel costs -- it is quite another if things don’t get shipped in the first place because there's no fuel.

I pulled into a Walmart gas station in Locust Grove, Virginia, this weekend and lo and behold, there was a sign on all of the pumps informing patrons that they were out of diesel fuel. While my vehicle doesn’t take diesel, it struck me as strange. The signs clearly had been up for at least a day.

After a quick perusal of the internet, I learned a great deal. Time magazine and Reuters both recently reported that the oil industry, in order to produce more gasoline and jet fuel, were compelled to cut back on diesel production. This cutting back on the supply of diesel has helped accelerate the inflation of the price of this type of fuel. When the government gets involved there are always unintended consequences.

One of my social media acquaintances works at an independent trucking company. The high fuel cost had forced them to park their fleet. His company is not alone. You would think that this lack of demand from such actions might impact supply, but apparently that is not the case. If anything, it poses a new threat to our supply chain woes. Adding to a shortage of truck drivers, now we have many not driving at all. You can almost hear the supply chain moaning in agony as a result.

This seems to be the leftist plan.

The Traitorjoe kakistocracy and its Demonicrat loyalists want economic and social chaos throughout the United States, so that they can rule under martial law.

I’m more concerned about DEF shortages.

Unless the DEP relaxes the emission controls, no DEF, no trucks. They can be swimming in a sea of diesel but cannot get out of limp mode without the stuff.

I firmly believe that every one of their dreams is coming true. Anything that’s bad for the American people makes George Soros and Klaus Schwab smile.

We are teetering on a very dangerous precipice.

Don’t forget Diesel’s two cousins: Jet Fuel and Home Heating Oil.

By design or typical government?
As I have always heard, “Put the government in control of the Sahara and pretty soon there will be sand shortage”.

However as I seem to remember some corrupt politician once say, “At this point in time, what difference does it make?”

The results are the same

"When the government gets involved there are always unintended consequences."

Sorry...not buying that BS this year. It is VERY much intended.

Yep. The snooty elitists in the Biden administration likely have no clue what DEF is.

I foresee crops rotting in the fields as farmers can’t justify the fuel costs to harvest and transport to market.

Will diesels run on gasoline? Or perhaps gasoline with some motor oil added?

Not really. But they will run on propane or nat gas. You have to do some plumbing and add a pressurized tank, though.

This was done during the Carter years.....

It’s easier to make diesel out of soy or vegetable oil.

Great. My kid is trying to get a job at one of the big flatbed trucking operations.

No. They are completely different fuel systems. Gasoline in a diesel engine will cause significant damage

Martial law will not restore supply chains. Diesel fuel for trucking is a vital part of maintaining the supply chains that still exist.

This is not merely cutting down on Diesel fuel. This is slashing our wrists and bleeding out.

Freedom may become “nothing left to lose”.

My local farmer isn't planting half his fields this year. They're just laying fallow.
