I have a procedure for cleaning produce that also keeps some food from spoiling.
5 quarts of water of water with 3 tablespoons of bleach
Soak for 5 minutes, rinse and let air dry.
For strawberries I add this extra step: Spread them on paper towels so they are not touching on my island with the ceiling fan drying then quickly. I can keep strawberries for a few weeks. Granted, they don’t look quite as pretty, but they taste the same.
You can also freeze strawberries after such a cleaning. Spread them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them. After being frozen, they can be put into zip bags. Of course, the texture is not great, but they still taste good.

I recently bought an Anova circulator, so I’m going to be playing around with that also.. supposedly you can make recipes in the bag, seal and freeze, and then pop into the circulator when you’re ready to cook. I’ve tried a couple of things in it and it doesn’t save you any time, but the quality is a thousand times better than reheating frozen meals in the microwave. (And I would never put raw fish in The microwave!)
For a vegetarian, I would think you could do pastas, skillets or curry meals in the vacuum bags and freeze them.
It made me uncomfortable enough to make bugout bags. We have been here for over 30 years and have never had to evacuate but the sirens are tested every Wednesday to keep us reminded. LOL

Gang violence affecting entire Chattanooga city
I’m halfway between Chattanooga and Knoxville and I hadn’t heard about an uptick in gang violence. Chattanooga is a big city and I’m sure they have had gangs for a while.
After my husband had his bad wreck over 20 years ago, he was in Erlanger in Chattanooga for a long time. We had to detour due to construction once when we went to visit and ended up in one of the “hood” neighborhoods.
We saw a cop parked in the neighborhood and stopped to ask how to get to Erlanger from there. There was a homie sitting on the hood of the cop car. The cop told us how to get to Erlanger and said “you two are the wrong color to be in this neighborhood and I advise you to get out as soon as you can”. We did. When we started back on our way my daughter looked at me and asked, “are you packing”. I said “yes, are you”? She was. LOL I was carrying a .357 Magnum and she was carrying a 9mm. We didn’t have fancy smartphones back then, just flip phones without Google maps and GPS.
So, it doesn’t surprise me. If I have to go to one of the two big cities, I prefer Knoxville. It feels more civilized to me.
