Poll Says 50% Think Gun Control Doesn’t Help—Rights Groups Challenge

On the day a crazed killer murdered 19 children and two teachers at an Uvalde, Texas elementary school, an ironically-timed Rasmussen poll revealed 50 percent of likely voters “don’t think stricter gun control would help” prevent mass shootings, while anti-gunners including Joe Biden quickly exploited the horrific crime to push for more gun restrictions.

In reaction to the shooting, two of the nation’s largest gun rights organizations issued a joint statement, challenging the Biden administration to stop “demonizing” gun owners and manufacturers and “bring them to the table and benefit from their knowledge.”

Students are going to kill other students. That’s what they’re taught in school.

...and broken families... and twisted mental health practitioners and protocols... and the normalization and proliferation of porn and violent content for youth... Among other things.

As I wrote elsewhere, this is a basic comprehension problem with risk management.

In the world of investing, there is a concept of risk-minimization whereby you lower your risk of loss or volatility by spreading your eggs across several baskets. However, one risk you cannot diversity away is the "systematic risk" or the risk inherent in the system...call it market risk or whatever, the basic reality is some baseline level of risk will ALWAYS exist, and you can't avoid it.

The same applies to America, her freedoms, and insane acts of violence.

Laws that support, life, liberty, and property are right and proper. Many laws act as a deterrent and will stop people on the margin from doing bad things...this is akin to diversifying away the non-systematic risk. Thus laws criminizing murder, are right and proper.

However, gun control is targeted at the systematic risk. And what did we say about that risk, kids? Riiiiight....It is unavoidable..

In a nation like America where freedom reigns and the individual trumps the collective, dopey ideas like assault weapon bans, magazine capacity limits, monthly caps on gun purchases do not help. That's because the risk of a maniac going on a killing spree is non-diversifiable. It is idiosyncratic.

The adults in the room understand on some baseline level, in a relatively free society of 330MM people, you'll always have a few pathological maniacs who will kill. Thus, random acts of violence like this tragic shooting, are the systematic risk of a free society.

Sure, maybe some laws can help, like liberal application of the 2nd Amendment and concealed carry. However, in large measure, unless you weld a GoPro to the heads of 330MM people with central monitoring in DC (and even that wouldn't be perfect...after all people in jail still get drugs and weapons), psychos gonna psycho.

The only way to achieve the numbers Trump20122020 posted (which, by the way, need to be population adjusted), is to shred civil liberties. THAT is the ugly truth that statists suppress in these debates.

Indeed, the problem arises when pathological politicians propose legislation like gun control - aimed at the systematic risk, which by definition you can't evade/will always be there - that simply erodes the freedoms of law-abiding citizens.

Is this by design? I doubt bureaucrats are that smart, but I don't doubt the darkness of their souls.

Biden sponsored gun free zones and to this day that’s where many gunmen go to shoot folks.

Biden did that!

Ramos was a total loon.
He was a transsexual.
His own mother kicked him out.
He creeped out everyone who knew him.
He murdered his grandmother and shot at anyone else he could see on the way into school.

Have any gun control laws made any discernible difference whatsoever? Real solutions to the problem are ignored and overwhelmed by the firearms hysteria.

Here’s a massive elephant in the room question.

WHY ARE ALL THESE SHOOTINGS DONE BY MALES?

If it isn’t a gun, then it would be something else. Insane, pissed off malcontents are the same from time in memoriam. The 1927 Bath School Dynamiting in Michigan is a testament to that.

No guns anywhere allowed anymore? Then they’ll hijack a school bus, a dump truck or a garbage truck and ram a school where kids or people are amassed. There are more ways to cause harm with everyday things, not just guns.

There are over 20,000 gun laws onthe books already, and an astonishing 300,000 plus gun regulations and statutes

We are full up on un laws. Guns are not the problem, security and lack of common sense are the problem. Liberals refuse to implement commons sense security measures in what are now gun free zones. We can never fix the issue of mass shootings until, we get serious about security in places like schools and workplaces. No law will stop criminals- they don’t obey laws- not sure ehat the left don’t understand about that

Most of the psychos have similar characteristics like voting Democrat. If you target gun restrictions against that demographic, you can probably reduce the systemic risk.

End “gun free zones”! They don’t work! This is where the majority of shootings take place...

Young Boys are forced to sit still for hours. One puberty hits, we are taught that we’re predators and to suppress our testosterone urges rather than finding healthy outlets like sports, hunting, and fishing.

Young Boys and men retreat to their rooms and play video games where reality is blurred with fantasy. Anger builds to rage. Rage leads to mental health crisis and emotional explosion.

As the father of a 17 year old young man, I can see how easy it would be for this to happen. My son just so happens to have an Alpha Mom and Dad, and we find him healthy outlets to ensure he’s never in a situation where he feels there’s no hope.
