America's rich & elite are buying second passports. There has been a 300% spike in passport applications in the last 3 years. The reasons cited are the political climate & the pandemic. Are Americans losing faith in their country?
Second passports? The phrase makes no sense.
With luck, they’ll use them.
Hi.
Posted something similar on another thread about this yesterday.
In certain circumstances a person may need or/and be required to have two passports.

It is unfortunate US law allows dual citizenship. Perhaps it should be changed. If your loyalties are divided you are not fully invested in the United States. Do we want people to hold citizenship who are not fully committed to the well being of the nation?
If I had enough money I would be first in line. This govt is oppressive, this population is insane, and the country is on a collision course with shi*t hole status.
I’m guessing the second passports are for some country besides the USA. My wife, for example, is from the Philippines, so she might want a Philippine passport if she becomes dissatisfied with just an American one.
Didn’t you watch the short couple of minutes video ? All explained .
Actually, nice to have when overseas. If you passport gets held by a foreign government, you can still get out. Laws in other countries do not work like ours, you have to prove your innocence.
No, there was no link at the bottom of the thread and no comment to go see the video.
It’s quite common for people with adequate financial resources to have a 2nd or even 3rd passport
Give you some flexibility in travel and residence should that become a favorable
Option. Almost did it for me and my family a couple times
For those who may not have the funds to move to Portugal or the other countries mentioned in the report, there are other possibilities. If they are Jewish, even if nonobservant, Israel offers aliyah, or the law of return. Ireland allows a foreigner who has at least one grandparent born in Ireland to apply for Irish citizenship. I believe several African countries have offered African Americans the opportunity to apply for citizenship in their countries.
Where exactly would you go, if you had the money?
I have a Swiss friend who maintains 2 of them - certain countries don’t like it if you’ve traveled to other countries, so 2 passports.
I’d do it. The US Marshalls take your passport when you are innocent but accused of a federal crime, even a misdemeanor.
All of the above are interested in having Americans, Canadians and Brits retire in their country. Panama probably gives the most incentives. Panama also has a large variety of real estate available. Anywhere from multiple millions down to $150K.
There are also lots of rental apartments in Panama City. The benefit of Slovenia, Spain and other EU countries is the ease of travel between them.
You can get a Euro rail pass and be in Italy, France or other EU countries in a few hours. Italy is also a country to consider. There are still inexpensive parts, especially in the south away from the touristy areas. Ecuador was very popular during the Great Recession because it was literally the least expensive real estate and cost of living in the Americas. Their government is pretty socialistic, but I think if you want to disappear, it might be a place to consider. They also do not have extradition to the USA.
Other South American countries to consider are Peru and Chile.
In southern Italy there are many towns that will give you property if you agree to renovate the house. Unfortunately dealing with local workers in southern Italy is bad enough let alone for an American...

So far the move seems to be in the direction of the countries that can supply the buyer with the most financial gain and tax protection using their programs to convert to citizenship. All in programs that are sustainable in as little as a few years at most. And during the conversion, it creates a shelter from American pressure to obtain earned funds in that country with investments. It may cost some to get the program, but the bennies are worth the nuisance after a couple of years while working with out of country resources. And since this investment is possibly as much as a couple of hundred thou to get into the programs, it is not for the financial unsound that are coming into the US which after the conversion, will take a lot of tax money out of US covers to foreign investment and a lot of the rich will just disappear. I guess the libs thought they could tax the rich into equality to the poor...they were wrong...again.
