These companies will help staff in red states bypass abortion bans
CNN Business ^ | May 3, 2022 | Allison Morrow,

Millions of women in more than 25 states face an abortion ban if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized the procedure nationwide. For many of those women, employers’ benefit packages may be the only way they can soon afford a legal abortion.

Amazon became the latest corporation to cover employees’ travel costs to seek abortion care. The company told staff it would pay up to $4,000 in travel expenses annually for medical treatments including abortions, according to a message seen by Reuters. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the nature of the Reuters report to CNN Business.

The company’s announcement echoes similar moves by Citigroup, Yelp, Uber and Lyft to help employees bypass Republican-led efforts in several states to effectively ban abortion. And it comes just hours after a bombshell report by Politico indicated the Supreme Court is prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade.

CNN has not independently confirmed the Politico report, and a Supreme Court spokesperson declined to comment.

If Roe is overturned, legislatures in 26 states have pending laws indicating that they intend to ban abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights. That could leave many women in need of abortion services hundreds or thousands of miles away from access to the procedure — unaffordable for many.

Corporate America is increasingly being drawn from the political sidelines on the abortion issue in response to pressure from investors, customers and employees. Companies are also struggling to attract and retain talent and worry about the impact these states’ anti-abortion laws could have on their workers.

FROM THE ARTICLE: Lyft & Uber

The ride-sharing rivals each announced in September that they would create legal defense funds to protect any drivers who might be sued under the Texas law for driving a person who receives an abortion.

The law’s wording leaves open the possibility that a driver could be sued, possibly even if they didn’t know an abortion was happening, according to Elizabeth Sepper, a law professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

Lyft also said it would donate $1 million to Planned Parenthood “to ensure that transportation is never a barrier to healthcare access.”

Again which rock group is it that sung "Highway to Hell"?

To access ‘healthcare’.

More like death care.

Sickening.

ACDC was never a fan of theirs, I knew of the song however. Very fitting for this situation.

That’s nice of CNN to provide a list of companies that support baby murder. Good to know.

I don’t know why they call it ‘health care’ when it’s destructive of health in so many ways.

But I guess this move is lucrative for some companies - it’s a lot cheaper to provide transportation or even the cost of abortion, than to provide maternity leave, hospital costs of delivery, and chip in for health insurance for a child...

Everything really comes down to money. The ‘virtue signalling’ is just cover.

Providing a taxable benefit to certain employees, as opposed to others. And since to women only, I wonder when the first person will sue a company for discrimination for not giving them comparable monetary benefit.

You know, a cynic might say that killing off employees’ kids is part of the business plan for these companies (i.e., what are the $ savings on not having a dependent on the employee’s benefits plan for the next 18 years, not to mention employee taking sick days to care for a kid with an earache, etc.?)

AC/DC, of course. It's in an odd key as well... it's noted in A, but it really is more of a D major mixolydian jam from my way of understanding it. Bon Scott era, btw. And yes, I bought the record when it first came out, and my truely awful garage band covered it. So I'm dating myself.

NO. The whole idea is to promote and inflame violence. BLM burning and looting - okay. Trump supporters protesting and enticed into the Capital to lock them up - okay. Going after people who didn’t even enter the building. Encouraging unlimited immigration - are they healthy? are the safe? will they work? are they hardened criminals evicted from another countries jails? And all the while chipping away at the Bill of Rights. Slanted media gaslighting all of America - okay. Tucker Carlson exposing hypocrisy of the left - not okay. Elon Musk promoting free speech of everybody - definitely not okay. Food shortages coming - okay. Energy prices - okay If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention.

Also to stop the exponential multiplication of people too stupid to use birth control and take care of children. Which would inevitably lead to full Idiocracy if not controlled. There are people who literally live like animals with no impulse control.

If abortion is banned, we’re going to pay more and more for these idiot’s kids until civilization collapses and they eat what’s left...

I’m a little confused by your post. Do you believe that “these idiot’s kids” don’t deserve a chance at life? Or do you just object to companies paying to transport people to obtain abortions?
