Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Good morning. Not bad. Jake turned up to purr and claw. He needs his claws trimmed.

It’s overcast this morning, but we’ll see how the day goes. We might go to the zoo later this week, depending on weathers.

We have a campout scheduled for early August: don’t know who will be going on it, as all the young men will be looking for jobs! Also day camp in June and Webelos camp in July.

I hope the weathers behave themselves so you can go.

I can’t remember the last time I went to the zoo. In the ‘80s I think — the Salt Lake Zoo. They had a new baby giraffe. It was still at the “look-but-don’t-touch” stage.

Hopefully, the upcoming campouts will be more fun for everyone.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

It’s nice to have the real kittehs back.

Things are still quiet and cool here. We’re trying a new food with the Princess in the hopes that will help with the seizures. The food claims to bring out your dog’s inner wolf, which we do NOT need, but I guess we’ll figure it out.

Day camp will be what it is. The most important part is drinking plenty of water and keeping one’s feet dry. That reminds me, I need to work on re-waterproofing my hiking boots or getting new ones. I can’t remember how long I’ve had my current pair ... 4 or 5 years?

For tenting events, we’ve got to figure out a way to keep water from getting under the tents. It must be possible! In the Old Days of Boy Scouts, you could dig a trench around the tent to keep water from flowing under, but one isn’t aloud to dig any more.

With a 3 yesterday and a 5 today, I guess I’m averaging a 4.

Good morning. I hope the doggie takes to the new food without too much wolf.

Good morning.

Hopefully, between the milk thistle and the new food, her seizures will stop or at least be less frequent.

She must be scared each time they happen to her. Bless her little doggie heart.

There doesn’t seem to be an “average” for me. My puzzle solving skills are better than they were at the onset of CFIDS but still a far cry from what they were before the onset. Still, I have to keep trying to outwit the disease. So I’ll own the shame on the days I get the X. ;o]

We had some overnight rain, finally... will have to see how much later...

Good morning. It is gloomy here today, but not raining. The young mockingbirds are eating bugs in the grass and ignoring Shannon.

Good Morning! It is too bad that the camping trip got cut short because of the rain... what kind of camp ground doesn’t allow one to dig a ditch around the tent?

(Hope that Shannon doesn’t get a complex from being ignored... 😂)

All of them, basically. State Parks, Federal land, etc., have fixed tent pads. They probably had good drainage when they were designed decades ago ...

I didn’t do much better on the Icelandic one. Both were a struggle.

Good morning! Yes, the overnight rain was nice.

Sorry the camping trip got cut short, TC. Will there be another attempt in the near future?

This one was a little tough…

I don’t think I was in Hurricane when you got hiking boots the last time. That would have put it at least four years ago.

That’s a real poser about keeping the water from under the tents. Straw?

Part of the issue is that the tents aren’t designed for major, multi-day downpours.

Ah. Of course. Cost-cutting by the manufacturers again.

There will be more and more multi-day downpours in the future, I suspect.
