Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Small world! That’s where we were stationed. We lived in a crumbling, 100-year-old villa in Pozzuoli and I had a balcony off my bedroom. It was an idyllic experience for all of us.
Isn't it just?
I've been so envious of them going I hate myself! But they worked and saved for nearly two years to make this happen, and even lost a total of 100 pounds between them, so I hope it's everything they dreamed it would be. (The trip was their "reward" for the weight loss!)
Made it through 36 hours of steady rain, but then we gave up. It was nice up there this morning, but supposed to rain again this afternoon, and we wouldn’t even have gotten all our gear dried.
Everyone fine.
So does this mean you’ve headed home?
Wow. So much rain. That doesn’t sound like much of a campout to me. I’m so sorry. The phrase, “Don’t let it rain on your parade” takes on a whole new meaning, considering what you’ve experienced.
We are at home.
w00t!
I'm glad you clarified that. I was thinking they were each 100# too heavy to fly.
The other weekend when we went to the wildlands we were hoping to do some yard work.
It didn’t stop raining until it was time to leave.
Nature, as they say, can be a mother.
I hope this is one of those “to be continued” sort of things.
Sorry you had to come home early.
Thanks!
No one was here, so...
They both needed to lose weight, him because of his diabetes and her because she couldn’t find anything to fit her. They decided to start going to the gym, and then decided that they needed to set goals for themselves.
That led, of course, to rewarding themselves for meeting those goals, and the trip to Europe came into being at that point. So they began to go to the gym three or four times a week and sock away some money every payday.
One benefit of course, was being more comfortable in airplane seats! Looking at the photos of them on the train to Amalfi from Rome, I think it’s a good thing they did lose the weight! ;o]
An oldie but goodie from “The Beverly Hillbillies”
Elverna Bradshaw: “Well, to tell the truth, Grannie, I have lost some weight.”
Granny: “Turn around, honey, I think I found it.”
Yes, sometimes you get the rain. The Feds refunded the rest of our fees, which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, as my late father would say.
If there was to be a full day of hot sun today, I could have gone to the laundromat while DP and the kids dried the tents out, but a full day of sun was not in the forecast today.
It’s good that you were able to get a refund for your fees, but still, it must have been very disappointing. :o[
Moving from VA to AZ, there was twice when we had torrential rains, but luckily, both times we were able to use a laundromat. The second time, however, we ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere in the New Mexico part of Rockies. LONG wait for enough gas to get us to a gas station!
One of my favorites!
Yes, disappointing, but in the long run, just one of those things.
I’m glad to see that your family members made it to Europe!
Life is full of little disappointments, but without them, other things wouldn’t be much fun!
Yes, the Other Folks made it, and luckily, they only lost a day in a place that wasn’t too important for either of them. I take that back. It was important for her but only for a status symbol, but then, that’s why he wanted to go to Wolfsburg.
The rest of the trip should just fall into place on schedule. Good for them! Now, I’m heading for bed. My face hurts, and I’m slightly befuddled, probably both because of the weather. Thunder storms lined up for tonight again.
Have a good night and I’ll see you tomorrow!
I’m sorry about your face! See you tomorrow!
Kitteh got its tummy full and fell down tryna move!
Good morning. I hope you slept well.
Rain, rain, rain. I feel like I’m in Puget Sound again, but the air isn’t as crisp and clear.
Nothing new from the Other Folks, so they must be having fun.
Will you reschedule your campout?
