Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says
The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.
“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”
And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.
“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

What a great little floof!
Good morning. I hope you slept well.
Are you all packed and ready to go? Is Sally going this time?
Safe trip, and I’ll be looking for updates!
Dang. How many times can I be dead wrong without getting the Big X?

Sally is going. Tom and Pat are not.
We are getting gear out and hope to be on the road by noon.
We sure did! About two inches and there was even a little hail. And sorry, ‘Face, but there was thunder too.
It was almost as if the weather guy saying it was looking like it might not happen for our area brought it on. LOL
And I’m loving the almost crisp feel this morning.
Yes, it’s a little chilly here, too, at 58°. No thunder, thank goodness, but the rain is supposed to continue today. This part of Arkansas gets on average of 57” a year of rain. *sigh*
Twins!!
I meant 5. You can fail five times without getting the X.
The X is apparently a NYT thing, the Iceland version doesn’t have it.
I’m sure the byos at home will be just fine. I hope they don’t leave a mess for you!
Here’s hoping the weather is good the entire time you’re gone!
Any news about Bill and Little Kitty?
I’ll be watching church from home today, because I just don’t feel like going. The hyperactivities of the last two Sundays have worn me out.
No word, yet, so it’s possible they are on their way to Europe.
Ah. That’s interesting. And where do I get the Iceland version? It would appear that I definitely need more practice!
Zero rain the the forecast here for at least the next 14 days of the 10 day forecast...
The Other Folks are driving from DC to NYC and will fly out of JFK tonight for Rome. I have no other word on the travel plans but hopefully the rest of it will all fall into place in the next 36-48 hours.
They will visit Ground Zero today. When I was there, in 2006, it was being constructed but as we turned away from the chain link fence, the clock on a building across the street read 9:11 at night. Eerie.
So they’re making lemon meringue pie. :o]
Thanks!
It seems to be about as difficult as NYT.
However, my mind needs the stimulation so I’ll take it!
Good! I hope the rest of their trip goes smoothly and they have a great time.
Getting to Rome is costing them, so hopefully, they won’t have to scrimp too much on the things they want to buy for themselves.
PW wants to get some Italian dinnerware and some blown-glass salad bowls, but that’s just the beginning of the trip. They still have France, Germany and GB to go to before it’s over. Push comes to shove they might cancel Paris, but probably not.
I hope they had an “emergency” fund included for situations like this. But as I said, they did want to see Ground Zero, so they’ll do that today.
*tagline*
I’m glad the trip is going somewhere, and I hope everything goes excellently from now on!
***SPOILER ALERT*** if you haven’t done today’s Wordle(s) don’t read yet:
I did the NYT one in 4.

Then I did nully’s link and used today’s NYT solution as my start word and got that one in two.

I wonder how many times that will work? 😏
That’s good. I hope the weather is decent.
It’s a somber but patriotic destination and it sure makes you think and reflect.
