Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Cats are a superior species.

Yes, mine reminds me of that daily.

I was awakened yesterday morning by an incipient cramp in my right calf muscle, and it still hurts today, along with my foot and ankle. I may have to take more pills.

Aww, I hope you get feeling better. Without pills.

Is Bill getting excited?

Is Mom getting prepared?

I just pulled the rug forward a bit, but I may need my FS to put the futon where it is centered.

Maybe, with luck I can make some changes that will give me more room.

I’m sure Bill is excited. I’ll make him come over and say goodbye tomorrow, if possible.

We’ll keep a few items of furniture and give away others.

I’m starting a new donation pile. Again. I have no choice.

Bill, the Southern Belle, forgot to give his brothers the nuts and bolts to reassemble the furniture.

*facepalm*

He says he’ll come over tomorrow evening and bring them.

Good luck to Mr Invisible! I hope this move is everything he expects it to be!

And I hope you do OK with another one going so far away. It’s hard to see them to move out, but distance makes it more permanent. Hang in there!

It’s been odd having them all living around here. I expect it has to do with their going to college locally.

There's no real imagining a move into NYC until you've done it. What floor is the apartment on? I'm assuming no elevator or doorman.

He says it’s “ground floor” but several steps up from the street.

Bill says he will keep his coffee table unless it won’t fit on his rental van, but he’ll bring another spare table over tomorrow, and we can give it to the recipient of the bed.

His coffee table should fit if the legs come off. Just put them in a bag or tape them together so they don’t get lost in transit.

Having them live close and go to college close is a good thing for all of you. Independence is independence, whether it’s down the street or across the country. He’ll be just fine!

Yes, that’s how the buildings work. The first floor is never right on the sidewalk and there is something underneath - either basement apartments or a laundry room or something.

You just never know with Bill. He is whimsical.

I need to take the measurements of the preschool table so I can find out who wants it.

Probably rats. I wonder if Little Kitty will see any rats.

If so, the rats may be bigger than Little Kitty!

I hope you have a good night!

She’s a stout little kitty, but Bill said he’s seen some pretty big rats in New York.
