Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

This is the second third time in the series that the author has ended with things unresolved. I’d be really annoyed if they were current books and one had to wait, but they’re from the early 2000s.

Good! Nothing like having to wait several months to a year to see what happens. I’m with ‘Face - cliffhangers suck!

Each story arc seems to be two books. I was thrown off because the first one seemed to wrap up, even though the second one had the same antagonist.

The important thing is that we’re very interested in finding out what will happen next!

My mother, may she R-I-P, could have used that information.

So, he took his cue from Batman, eh?

I’m sure your mother knows that, now.

Thanks! I’ll pass on the wishes.

I didn’t even tell the saddest part.

My daughter ordered some little plaid bow-tie collars for the two cats, and also ordered a cat stroller specifically for Binxx because he loved being outside. They were going to start taking him for walks. FD took a photo of him in one of his new collars about an hour before his accident.

The stroller will be delivered today.

Mona came over for a minute to complain about her on-again/off-again relationship with a ne’er-do-well “boyfriend.”

It took my mind off things.

The Lawn Guys came just about the time I was going to paint the door, so I’ll wait until tomorrow. Of course, it’s raining now, so...

Some days are longer than others.

That really is so sad. That poor kitty. Was he a young little guy?

I really feel for FD, The Guy and Binxx’s poor kitty companion. Holding them close in prayer today.

Update on the situation in CO. FD and The Guy (I really should refer to him by something else since they’re married, now, so henceforth, he’s Rob’t!) have decided to have Binxx cremated, and they’ve decided to start to look today for another cat.

Binxx was about 12 and Merlin is about 14, but they plan to get one about 2-3 years old if they can find one.

I’m relieved that Rob’t will have a new therapy cat asap. It was his choice, and that’s a good sign.

I’m glad they’re going to get another kitty. I hope Merlin will adjust quickly and love his new buddy.

They gave Binxx a good kitty-life. I know it’s crushingly sad for them now, but I hope they can take a modicum of comfort in that.

I gave the Meezer an extra cuddle just now.

Cat cuddling?

Binxx, being a cat, was doubtless striding off to kitty heaven, nose and tail held high, with a smug ‘I meant to do that’ look on his face.

Poor Binxx, poor FD, poor The Guy.

Thanks!

Meezer needs a hug from me, too, since I can’t cuddle any cats at the moment. Next week!

Yes, Nully, I think you are 100% correct on your assessment of Binxx striding off to kitty heaven. In fact, I can picture him doing it! (He would have nothing to do with me, not even in a “curious about the newcomer” way!)

Thanks for your sentiments. I’ll pass them on! <3

LOL - the dreaded stiff arm. Or the way they go completely stiff when they don’t want to be cuddled.

Will do! The Meez loves cuddles. He’s napping right now, but when he wakes up, stretches and blinks a few times and wanders out here looking for a snuggle, I will oblige.
