Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Kittehs in pictures are the easiest, says the person with a 15-pounder on her head at night.

I’d settle for that.

I think I’ve figured out why there are no stray cats around — all the stray dogs. They seem to run in pack, which is dangerous for cats of the feline persuasion.

I’ll get one, as soon as I find a discerning kitteh.

That makes sense. Packs of dogs are bad for people, too.

It also explains why animal control is so visible in the area.

Yes. At least they aren’t ignoring it!

Which is a good thing!

I worry though, because Mona got a dog recently, and she lets him off the leash. There is a stray larger “pit bull” that went after the next-door neighbor’s little Dachshund who WAS on a leash.

If Mona doesn’t care about her dog enough to keep it on the leash, I won’t say anything to her.

I don’t think it would do any good to say anything. Dog parents don’t need advice!

If there were any around here! LOL!

And I see where Henderson in going to have 115° for this weekend, and all I can think of is to be dry and warm once again....

And I loved every single degree of it, every single year I lived there. Once it gets to 110°, the only difference in higher temps is that the hot pads and oven mitts need to be twice as thick in order for one to open the car door and grip the steering wheel.

We’ve got 100° here, and have been having it, but the humidity is almost as high. I’m not liking it at ALL!

Good morning.

I have no idea why I’m up so early, but it seems my brain was anxious to engage in nonsensical thoughts about long ago and far away. Or maybe it was some unforeseeable future that couldn’t actually happen but is still worrisome.

May as well get up and start my letter to Charlie.

Good morning. I’m up. Sounds like someone is awake upstairs, too, which will make it easier to get ready to leave.
