Pieces of ‘fireball’ meteor that exploded over Mississippi are being found, NASA says

Meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom,' NASA says

The “bright fireball” was traveling at 35,000 mph when it exploded at 8:03 a.m. with the “energy equivalent of 3 tons of TNT,” according to NASA Meteor Watch, the agency's project that tracks fireball activity.

“Existing law states that any meteorites belong to the owner of the property on which they fell; out of respect for the privacy of those in the area, we will not disclose the locations of these finds,”

And finding anything of value is likely harder than you think.

“The pieces from this object were way too small to leave a crater. Unlike what you see in the movies, meteorites are not ‘flaming rocks of doom’ that blast holes in the ground. In fact, you can pick one up right after it hits ground. So no smoking rocks in small craters.”

Yeah, but he wasn’t nearly as good as Kevin McCarthy, imo. Of course, I have the DVD AND the book, which doesn’t end in the FBI offices. But the movie would have been too boring to go beyond that, so.

Crikey. More thunderstorms. *sigh*

FS will spend tomorrow in Germany, and in 10 minutes, I’ll get on Facebook and wish him a happy birthday. He’ll be going to the VW autowerks in Wolfsburg for an all day tour, then to Paris. Then London, then home next weekend.

(erk)

Stay strong.

I hope he has a fantastic time at the VW factory. I know this is a big deal for him!

Kathleen had a good time at the art activity at the library, and I finished a book I’d been reading and returned it.

I’m glad Kathleen enjoyed her time at the library. Good for you, finishing a book! I finished the one I was reading on Monday night and started the second volume last night. I know the ending, but I just don’t know all the players!

Darn thunderstorms! Sound like something I can’t think of and the rain is coming down like crazy. Again.

I really would like some pizza delivered, but there are quite a few reasons why I won’t ask for it, and bazillions of them are hitting the ground right now! Not going to ask anyone to go out in this stuff!

The birthday greetings have been sent. Now, I’m going to close this down for the night. See ya tomorrow!

See you tomorrow! I put my brother’s birthday card in the mail today. I hope it gets there by Monday!

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

These short work weeks are weird. It doesn’t really feel like it can be this late in the week already.

And this wasn’t a good start to it.

Good morning. Happy Thorsday!

Shannon just had words (and claws) with a visiting black-and-white cat on the doorstep. There are a few tufts of white fur on the cement, not sure whose they are.

Shannon is under the salvia cursing violently, so I can’t check her for injury, but I think I broke it up before it got serious.

FD sent me something almost like this to wake me up this morning. She didn’t need to. The Folks Upstairs would have done in before long anyway. I’m ready to go up and tell them to knock it off. Enough noise.

Good morning. I hope you had a good night.

Sorry about Shannon, but the interloper had it coming. I hope she’s OK.

Happy Friday Eve!

When one is retired, most days are the same, except Sundays. ;o]

At least you weren’t X/6, like me!

Happy Birthday to my Favorite Son who has, by now, I’m sure, spent the day at the Wolfsburg VW factory in Germany. I hope his day is as amazing as he dreamed it would be. :o])

Good morning, and not bad. Shannon was still furious, last I checked, but maybe she’ll come out if I go pull some weeds. She likes to supervise.

Sorry about your weather! I’m getting my hair cut this morning.

Shannon emerged and is unharmed, except for her dignity, since I had to turn her on her back and inspect her fluffy white underside for injury.

True that... I usually depend on ArGee's posts here to inform me of the current day of the week...

I struggled quite a bit with this little gem...

Shannon was probably still in shock that someone would actually dare to come on her property. I mean, the NERVE!

I’m glad she’s OK. So the fur loss was the interloper’s?

My hair is long enough to where I can pull it back again. Out of my eyes and off my cheeks! It’s either cut short with layers or a little longer and pulled back. Since I’m not driving, I have to work with what I’ve got.
