Elon Musk Can Fix Twitter Culture
WSJ ^ | 26 April 2022 | Holman W. Jenkins

This is an institutional quagmire that existing management got sucked into and has been powerless to correct or perhaps even to see clearly. Example: a ruling last week banning ads that don’t affirm the “consensus” of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

In private hands, management will find it easier to dismantle this tendency and free Twitter from the albatross of excessive obeisance to the progressive left—a sector, Pew tells us, that is overwhelmingly white, privileged and accounts for just 6% of the U.S. population.

So Mr. Musk’s real contribution may turn out to be a one-and-done move to relieve Twitter of its foolish overcommitment to the politics of the left—an overcommitment that has characterized many institutions in society lately, and not because of conviction, revealed truth or any accumulation of evidence. The reason is fear and intimidation.

The examples are numerous, like when name-brand corporate CEOs denounce a Georgia voting law they haven’t bothered to examine because they were personally terrified not to be seen denouncing anything that progressive opponents labeled Jim Crow 2.0.

Or when academics and journalists gather to discuss the problem of disinformation and then get lockjaw when a student asks about liberal-promoted disinformation such as a claim that Hunter Biden’s laptop was a creation of Russian intelligence.

Or when university presidents—oh, never mind, the instances of moral cowardice on campus are too numerous to need citing...

Also of note: during this past few weeks, not a single Lefty billionaire stepped up to intervene with a counterproposal to buy out twitter in Musk’s stead.

Yet the Left is still howling about Musk spending his own well-earned wealth to do so.

I think I have a solution on how he can figure out who to let go.

Since there are a lot of people to go through, get several rooms and have a certified conservative Patriot in each one. As the employee comes in and takes a seat, a cover is removed from a table. On it are 3 things: a gun, a Bible, and a portrait of President Donald J. Trump. The Patriot then asks a simple question: “Should any restriction WHATSOEVER be made against ANY statement made on Twitter?”.

If the employee shows ANY adverse reaction to the items on the table, or should answer ‘yes” to the question, they’re then instantly FIRED.

This idea came to me before I had a full cup of coffee this morning. Please judge accordingly.

The standard answer that any CEO should give when asked to support a woke agenda is “The only opinion we care about are how the customers feel about our products.”

This is absolutely true. The left gets all the big corporations and institutions to toe the line by terrorizing their management and then permanently infiltrating their corporate bodies.

It’s a protection racket the mafia would be proud of.

First thing Elon should do (in order not to repeat what happened when Trump came into office and Obama political operatives remained entrenched) is let the flaming libs all leave, then fire all Twitter employees and make them interview for their jobs back. Toss any applicant that has wacky-colored hair, piercings, a man-bun, man purse, etc.

The only way to fix Twitter’s culture is to move the company out of California.

Musk needs to push the transition process to be completed before the end of September; the left will continue to use the platform to wreak havoc with the 2022 elections through the summer and will push their woke efforts even harder as we get closer to the elections. If he can wrest control by the end of the summer, many conservative voices will be heard that would otherwise be censored by the left in a final push to retain control.

The Constitution was created by wise men. And they can be considered our “aristocracy” — not of noble or wealthy birth, but skin-in-the-game aristocrats by virtue of accomplishments in life and proven merit to society.

I believe Musk is in that camp and it’s wonderful that he has chosen to use his wealth wisely.

Yes, you can criticize Mr. Musk for things he has said and his cleverness at taking advantage of tax incentives. But on the whole, he has cast himself — not a pure conservative — but as a non-partisan, middle-of-the-roader, whose aim is squarely in line with freedom and the principles of America’s greatness.

I think Rush Limbaugh would have been proud of Musk at this moment in history.

From your link:
“For American nationalists, the first thought might be “Good riddance. Left-wing activists and journalists are unbearable.” This is misguided, though. What made Twitter so valuable and useful at its peak was that it really was a pan-ideological public square. “

Exactly why it should be open source algorithms vetting posters.

As a long-term Linux user OPEN SOURCE works well.
Anyone, including black hats the world over, can review the entire OS! Yes, sometimes they find a chink in the system.

That said the white hats manage to stay ahead, and I thank them for their work.

And the fake accounts mostly gum up the system and need to be quickly removed.

Guessing that Twitter engineers know this, but do not want to discuss the problem.

Yes the self-loathing, guilt-ridden, do-gooder whites. The bane of humanity.

Same here and I wish someone would start building election equipment using standard parts off the shelf like very common processors etc and Open Source software. You would think everyone in the world would be clamoring to get them. Everyone but some politicians at least. If enough citizens demanded it, we might get it done. Would be a good project for Elon. Piece of cake compared to building cars and rockets.

Why is half the world using equipment/software that has it’s origins in Venezuela?

There is a platform with no rules and where there is total freedom of expression for everybody. and it seems everyone on the globe has been accessing it for years and been much better off for it. It’s called the internet that has every form of information, misinformation, bots, ridicule, hate speech, virtue signaling, helpful and unhelpful advice, etc. and the amazing thing is that everyone keeps coming back...that is, except to CNN+ which is proof most people, without help from a censor with an agenda, can distinguish fact from fiction. Wonder if those who oppose Elon’s free speech absolutism would also advocate shutting down the internet. I would love to hear the book burners’ arguments for shutting it down. No, not you, President Xi.
