Are we losing our discernment

Posted on 03/21/2022 12:02:44 PM PDT by standing man

VANITY I am a long time lurker and occasional poster. I consider Free Republic to be one of the most informative sites available, but I find myself confused with the direction of commentary regarding Russia and the Ukriane. The media, the democrats, George Soros, the UN, the World economic forum. ALL either have LIED to us continually for the last four years or are actively involved in planning the destruction of our nation. At the Risk of being called a putinista or putard I have to ask the question. Why do we accept as fact the narrative that we are being fed by the msm? This link is not the hill I am willing to die on but it does present an alternative point of view worth considering https://burningbright.substack.com Stand Tall Brad

I 100% agree with your position.

You are on the side of FREEDOM or TYRANNY. If you on the side of FREEDOM, IT MATTERS NOT WHO ELSE IS ON YOUR SIDE TOO, OR IF NO ONE IS ON YOUR SIDE.

I don’t track names, so I can’t say if it’s “literally” true, but my impression is that the Freepers who are “pro-mandates for the bogus vaccine” are pretty much the same Freepers who are “pro-war with Russia over Ukraine”.

Globalist stooges. I feel great contempt.

See post 6 of DrSteve. He very succinctly summarizes my point of view.

It was clear to me early that the news on this was full of garbage, and I have not wavered in that opinion. I persist in my view that there is no good side to take. I am, however, heartbroken for the Ukrainian people, and some of the Russian people as well who have a distaste for this war and have lost loved ones. There are never many winners in a war. And those that win often lose a part of their soul and sanity. The aftermath is grim, at best.

My radar is up too. Stinks too much of the "pandemic" propaganda by all the usual suspects.

The fact that Biden was telegraphing this action, and then blabbing about it for weeks, is weird. I certainly am not buying anything he says.

We'll just have to piece the truth together for ourselves as we usually do.

I think the same about Zelensky.

To me, Russia is a bigger enemy than Ukraine.

And the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Ukraine is relatively harmless to America except for the money laundering and their spread of socialist ideals.

Russia, on the other hand, can support and maintain Communist dictatorships like Venezuela and Cuba as well as make inroads in Africa and Central America.

So, bust up Russia. Make them suffer on the battlefield. Maybe they will shy away from doing it again.

Yes, both.

All sides — including us — are lying about most everything.

This whole European mess is not my rainbow to chase.

I don't. Putin is a KGB soviet-pinko and I hope he get's his rear-end handed to him. In addition to that, I believe nothing that comes from the media. I do not consider my views to be mutually exclusive.

There are no Good Guys in this conflict. There are civilians caught in the middle.

Not all civilians, just the regular folks. Also, the troops of both sides, fighting and dying for oligarchs that at best consider them expendable pawns but more likely hate them.

This is the problem when the media constantly lies. The people who should have the time, ability and access to find the truth aren’t interested in the truth.

It's 2022, why are you still lapping up all your information from the MSM?

Because even most Freepers are ignorant about modern history regarding Russia and Ukraine and too many of them are in the thrall of Fox News and other neocon media sources.

The ONLY reason I favor the Ukrainians in this war is because Russia invaded it and they are defending themselves.

People want simple answers not complicated.

Simple answers allow for perceived simple solutions.

Complicated answers and free discussion lead to better solutions, but we can’t have that....................

Indeed. I didn’t lose anything in Ukraine and when I hear the plaints of “40 million people being INVADED - we have to fight” I cringe. California has 40 million people, it’s been invaded by Mexico, Central and South America, ASIS (nearly all of them) and there are multiple southern border states suffering the same thing. Where is/was Ukraine in helping us stem that tide? Not my dog, not my fight.

“Are we losing our discernment”

As far as I’m concerned, “we” are voters. We’ll learn something come November.

Millions of civilians.

But a lot of the people here think that those concerned about the civilians and what is being done to them are somehow fostering WWIII. They seem to demand that everyone agree that Putin had every right to do this; and if anyone opines differently they are met with snide remarks and condemnation.

I haven’t seen anybody here suggest that the US should start WWIII, or even champion Zelensky. But that’s what half of the Freepers are being accused of by the other half.

Free Republic is as nasty and unpleasant now as it became when Trump declared that he would run for President.
