OK, I got search to work. And I did not.
There is an article near the top of the queue about Nigel Farage & Russia.
I just clicked on FreeRepublic and went to a home page and typed in “Nigel Farage Russia”. Presto! search worked perfect. Got a bunch of articles, the correct one right on top.
Now here comes the idiotic part.
When I list by recent post, there is a search box up in the top right hand corner. I selected “title”, type in “Nigel Farage Russia”, and get...
Nothing matched your criteria.
What the hell? What the holy hell? Pffffftttttttttt.
I can only hope that the next time I need search, I will remember to go to the home page, and not get stymied by the one on the list of recent posts. Thing is, I ALWAYS come in on the list of recent posts. That is where I alway start. So odds are infintely low I will remember the search that works is on the home page.
I am baffled why the one works and the other does not. Don’t they both point to the same script/program/app? WTF??????
I believe rumors of her death are exaggerated.
Oh. Thank God.
We’ll send search-and-rescue out to help you. Wait, oops! Darn it!
Son of a!
I just repeated it again.
Home search, perfect works fine.
The one from recent posts, NOPE, no good. Says “Nothing matched your criteria.
Then I deleted the little asterisk “*” that automatically always comes up AND IT WORKED.
SOB! Are you telling me that that stupid idiot little automatic asterisk has been sabotaging my searches on FR for the past 15 years? Why? Why does that stupid little asterisk come up automatically if it prevents you from searching?
UGGGGHHHHH!
Bash head against brick wall. Over and over. Hard. Repeat.
Yet another thing I am sure to forget. I will never remember to delete the stupid little asterisk every time I do a search. Here is hoping I just remember to go to the home page.
You’ve been here since 2005 and you don’t know how to search?
Seriously?
Search will work accurately about when the site is set up to edit posts.....never.
“site:freerepublic.com wmarshal”
and you will find a lot of my rants for your reading pleasure.
Also, May every leftist in trader burn in hell.
Try this using just your browser:
Example search >>> site:freerepublic.com “ostracism”
Type whatever you want between the quote marks.
DON'T search for the whole title.
Search for a unique-ish word in the title (more than three letters - FR search dislikes 3-letter or less search terms).
This is actually good advice on searching in general with any search engine.
My observation is that people appear to be searching for an EXACT match.
Computers are notorious for discarding results that are one character away from your EXACT search term.
I learned this the hard way in college on a programming assignment.
first, search for ‘gas; suggested ‘gasbag’! hahaha!

top of the list for me...and Kaslin always has good stuff..
I’ll call Moose and Cheese and circle back to you.
I know search works because the mods are always writing “Search Still Works” on many of the threads they delete.
Yet It doesn’t much work for me. There is one trick where I can get it to search for single word.
I find the search quite problematic. Some days I am able to find what I want, but most times I might as well just toss some chicken bones on the dirt and interpret their positions.
PICNIC
google searches fr better than fr.
