MIAMI — A man and his 11-year-old grandson found a little more than they were looking for during a weekend fishing trip. The pair pulled two .50-caliber Barrett sniper rifles out of a canal near Miami.
Duane Smith told the Miami Herald he saw a YouTube video on magnet fishing and decided to give it a try on Sunday. They dropped a 5-pound magnet in the C-102 canal in southern Miami-Dade County.

“Should have kept their mouths shut.”
Setting yourself up for trouble.
At least keep one of ‘em.
One (scary) explanation from the story:
Smith said he isn’t convinced the guns were in the water very long. He says they were wrapped in plastic, and we wiped away most of the corrosion in 30 minutes.
“It looked like it was something that someone would want to come back for,” he said.
“At least keep one of ‘em.”
One or two, still against the law.
The Grandson is going to crow about that discovery for years. With each telling of the story, the number and size of the guns will increase.
Two Barretts. Big time score, if they’re functional.
Ammo isn’t cheap, though.
I’ve caught fishing poles a few times fishing for bass with a Carolina rig. Be interesting dragging a magnet around a marina where people are loading and unloading.
Cops came out with a tow truck operator and they hauled it out.
They thought it belonged to a guy who was currently in prison and his ex-wife probably got rid of it there.
LOL, yeah what's up with that, pal? 😎
Happened in the tragic boating accident, of course. Hit the propeller..........................
Need to use a brass and lead type magnet.

Why did they tell anybody? Lol.
Some years ago a friend of mine who was working at HillAFB was going through some old reconnaissance gear that had been in storage since the Vietnam War. He opened a light table and found an M60 machine gun. Probably wouldn’t have been smart to keep it.
They are not against the law here in Texas. Buy from a regular FFL, just like anything else. I came very close to buying one from Cabelas once, they had a used one for sale.
Yep, old Duane might be getting a "thank you" visit from some cartel members.
Florida has no laws regulating 50 caliber rifles......They're legal to own.
There are underwater drones available with robotic arms!

Those were the days.
Back in '95 the Sportsman Guide had 100 round belts of 50 BMG for $110 shipped.
The belts also had tracer rounds mixed in.
What kind of bait did they use?
