How do you measure the cold on Mount Washington? 30º below zero, or cold enough to freeze spaghetti in mid-air

Temperatures across New England dipped below zero Tuesday, but on Mount Washington in New Hampshire, a different, more anecdotal metric described the treacherous weather: the air was cold enough to freeze a dish of spaghetti, fork included, in mid-air.
Like a futuristic sculpture memorializing morning-after leftovers, the plate of pasta stood suspended in its place, its fork defying gravity as it hovered several inches off the snowy ground.

It hit -25 in ND last week and it deflated the front right tire of my truck. I had to jack it up, take off the tire, and I’m getting it inspected because I can’t get it to hold any air.

During the 70’s energy crisis it hit 30 below for a week straight. And I am not talking about on a mountain.

You don’t waste spaghetti, so you obviously measure the temperature in degrees. Only rationale choice.

I drove to the top of Mt. Washington years ago. It was in the high 80s that Summer day. Got up there and there was sleet. I forget the temp at the summit, but 16 degrees comes to mind. Harder for me take full breaths as well. My Siberian Huskie loved it.

I have experience 40° below zero weather but it was absolutely still will little, if any, wind, let alone a 65 mph death-wind. 30° below zero any wind at all is very nasty.
As a kid I enjoyed spitting and then hearing it hit the ground as solid ice.

That’s because you didn’t exchange the summer air for winter air in the tires... happens all the time 😆

Mount Washington is a pretty neat place. I rode to the top once on a motorcycle trip to the northeast in the early 80’s.

I’ve read that Mt. Washington is a very dangerous place and one of the deadliest mountains.
Quick changes in weather conditions at such extremes described in this article lead to tourists getting trapped and succumbing to the elements because they are not prepared.
