I love a heated steering wheel. It’s one of those little creature comforts that if you have never had one then you’re not missing anything. On the other hand once you’ve had one it’s a feature you want to have on every vehicle you own.
My 2021 Tacoma did not come with a heated steering wheel although it is an option on some of their models.
Does anyone know if there is a Bona fide heated steering wheel upgrade for a 2021 Tacoma truck?
Yeah, those tricky Tacoma salesmen, didn't tell you about the frozen, cold steering wheel...Oh, you knew before you bought it.
Hmmm.
Didn't your mother tell you not to stick your tongue on the cold, frozen steering wheel?
Interesting question.
You could buy an OEM wheel that is rigged to heat up, but is your Truck wired up to supply current to that heating element.
I would some of the auto wreckers/auto salvage yards.
Insurance companies would writeoff a water damaged Truck, or a Truck banged up from an accident. Those Trucks ought to have pristine steering wheels
I just bought a Tacoma in 2021 and looked into the same topic. The problem lies in the replacing of the steering wheel and air bag components which can be done at a dealership but is expensive. Best option for me was to get an auto ignition, and start truck about 20 minutes before you leave, problem solved.
I’m guessing you haven’t looked?
My kid had one in a Ram. When it quit working they wanted 2000 to replace it.
I know global warming is killing us but here in Panama City Florida my windshield is frosted this morning. That ain’t cool, it’s freezing. I best check on the neighbors now.
Tune your car radio to taxpayer-funded and corporate-funded NPR.
Take in the lisps and the neo-Marxism.
You’ll find the fist-clenching helps.
Somewhere in Sweden, a young girl named Greta just fainted. (But boy will she be angry when she comes to.)
You mean Greta the Grinch?? Poor girl has been manipulated beyond repair. When she’s about 70, she’ll realize what an a** they made of her.
Can’t aim your dash vents at the steering wheel? Or is it one of those cars that will not let you put heat out the dash vents?
One guy I work with removed the steering wheel airbag and used its rotary sliding contacts for the steering wheel heater. He figured that the seat belt protected him well enough (and without rearranging his face).
Try this:
Quit the braggin’!
It would cost you a bundle due to the air bag, but the wiring should be there to connect the heater on a such-equipped steering wheel. I assume this because I was able to swap the rear view mirror in my Taco for one with a compass and the necessary wiring was already there.
Wouldn’t a heated steering wheel make your hands sweat?
I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it on cold days (in conjunction with the heated seats) so I'll be looking for that feature in future cars. Not sure if I'd want to add one after-market however.
The best cold-weather option of all however is the Subaru remote starter app. Nothing beats getting into a toasty warm car on a freezing cold morning. I start it up when I'm making my morning eggs and on the way home from Manhattan, I can start the car from the train before it hits the station and turn on the defrosters. Huge time saver!
I installed heated seats in my Durango that I made out of old toaster parts. I wish I had put in the sunroof before I used them though.
Thank you for this. I’m told of the wiring coupling is there it can be done. I’ve called two Toyota dealerships and talk to the parts guy. Both didn’t know what I was talking about and said it’s impossible, But they couldn’t tell me why.
I think it can be done. I think the electrical connections are there.
Yes the new Tacoma’s have that auto start option which is great.
If you Google the topic there are some places that said it can be done and that the extra element wiring is there but when you talk to the dealerships nobody knows.
