I just bought a Tacoma in 2021 and looked into the same topic. The problem lies in the replacing of the steering wheel and air bag components which can be done at a dealership but is expensive. Best option for me was to get an auto ignition, and start truck about 20 minutes before you leave, problem solved.

Somewhere in Sweden, a young girl named Greta just fainted. (But boy will she be angry when she comes to.)

Yes the new Tacoma’s have that auto start option which is great.

If you Google the topic there are some places that said it can be done and that the extra element wiring is there but when you talk to the dealerships nobody knows.

The problem is the gizmo(technical term) under the airbag has wires going into it only for the functions present on the steering wheel already.

My horn stopped working on my Tacoma. I had to replace a part that was on the steering column under the airbag. You have to take the airbag out first, then take the wheel off. There is a wiring harness that has four wires. One for the horn. One for the airbag. One for the bluetooth phone controls. One for the stereo controls.

So, if it was not a factory option, it would be very difficult to add.

Buy a pair of gloves. I have two in my glove box. I used them for the first time this year this morning.
