Golly.

I wonder if the “Robber Barons” will show up and be the bad guys?

Julian Fellowes is a clever fellow who has never struck me as woke or left wing.

The Gilded Age seems to me to be an under exploited era. There is Martin Scorsese’s “The Age of Innocence” based on the Edith Wharton novel. Another Edith Wharton Gilded Age novel “House of Mirth” was adopted as a movie in 2000.

Looks like it’s going to be very female centric. I enjoyed Downton Abbey and it’s storylines focused a lot on the women too, but I suspect that in today’s climate that focus will take on a new tone. On paper making the show more female centric is not necessarily a bad thing, but again today it’s a red flag for me.

House of Mirth -- excellent novel, very boring film.

British TV concepts don't always translate very well to US TV.

Often they do, but sometimes they flop.

Also, the headline needs work: Cynthia Nixon and Meryl Streep had a daughter?

The Gilded Age seems to me to be an under exploited era.

There are some fun Hollywood musicals and comedies set in the period (or near it) such as Meet Me in St. Louis, On Moonlight Bay (and a sequel By the Light of the Silvery Moon and The Happy Years. In all of those films, the father is played by Leon Ames.

It's probably under-exploited because it is seen as "too white".

And I’m sure they’ll shoehorn in some black and gay characters.

Clever? I will characterize him as brilliant. His body of work is hard to beat

However....... in the UK TV it’s Pakis and you know whats and queers

so his productions will surely have a black queer zillionaire forced on him

I think I'll just watch Gosford Park again.

It did it better than DA and in only a little over two hours.

I wonder how many black/white couples they’ll have and how many male/male couples they’ll have and how many female/female couples they’ll have?

LOL. “Carson” was a favorite. I thought DA was really well done, very authentic with an actual historian who specialized in the era calling the shots on costumes, dinner plates, hobbies etc.

They killed the “hottie” sister “Lady Sybil” off early, which bummed me out.

Sounds intriguing...yah,sure! Downton Abbey was good but can’t hold a candle to Upstairs/Downstairs. Although I must say that Maggie Smith was *outstanding* as the Dowager Countess.

Did you ever see him in Monarch Of The Glenn? He played an English Duke named Lord Kilwilly.

He was quite good!
