Julius Jones was scheduled to be executed at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, however, announced at noon Thursday he has commuted Jones' sentence to life without the possibility of parole.

Looking at it dispassionately it does appear that the conviction is suspect. There is compelling evidence that he wasn’t the guy who did it. But I guess the kneejerk reaction is to always howl for blood. Like liberals.

That was my first thought, but then it occurred to me that Oklahoma is in the news lately about the newly appointed general of the Oklahoma National Guard saying his troops wouldn't have to take the vaccine. I think this current governor just appointed him.
The thought occurs to me that he may be thinking like Lincoln.

He was lucky to find a weak Governor swayed by social media hordes. It does great disservice to the lawyers, judges, jurors, and family members.

I'm not sure that makes any sense. Since the bandana was found in Jones house, what would it prove to show his blood was on it? Now the murder victim's blood would be significant, but that is not what is being said above.
There is such a thing as justice. It’s not about bringing anyone back.
How have they modified it? My position has always been that if the evidence proves beyond a reasonable doubt that someone committed murder, then they should be executed for it.
I have long objected to tax payers being sentenced to "life in prison."
If he didn’t do it, and got the death penalty, that would be horrible. BUT, he would have up to 20 years to come to Jesus and live for eternity with the LORD. I guess most people don’t look at things that way, but they should. Where we spend eternity is infinitely more important than where or how we spend the rest of our lives on earth.
If he DID do it, he deserves the death penalty. The LORD, himself, instituted the death penalty, and to reinforce that fact, Jesus had a perfect opportunity to condemn the death penalty while he hung on the cross with the two beside him, who were receiving the death penalty, but He did not. He did, however, give the repentant thief the opportunity to be with him in Heaven.
I do not understand how Jewish or Christian people can fight against the death penalty.

The victim's blood on the bandana would have been more conclusive. Finding the perps blood on his own bandana wouldn't seem of much value to me.
I guess the defense was hoping it would show someone else's blood on the bandana so they could argue it was another perpetrator.
The excuses on this one are nearly as good as the ones for the teens who shot a baby in a stroller in front of his mother.
They nabbed them, they confessed, lead the police to the murder weapon and there were a few skulls full of mush who insisted that it was actually the mother who shot the baby and was just blaming the poor innocent teens for it.

The murder weapon was found wrapped in the bandana. The witnesses said the murderer was wearing a red bandana. The bandana and the weapon were found hidden in Jones' family's house. Dude is guilty as sin.
Yes, which is why I wondered why anyone would not expect to find his DNA on it. The Victim's DNA on it would have been a slam dunk as proof of guilt.

I tend to mostly blame Woodrow Wilson although Teddy Roosevelt comes in for his share of the blame.

I used to be much more supportive of the death penalty, and still am in many cases. But witnessing the incompetence and outright corruption our law enforcement agents over the last two decades, leaves me with a little trust that they’ll do the right thing if they even know what the right thing is.
