No one has been charged in the fatal shooting, and Mary Carmack-Altwies, district attorney of Santa Fe County, New Mexico, has highlighted the complexity of the situation.
"We don't know how those live rounds got there," she told CNN. "And I think that that will probably end up being kind of the linchpin for whether a decision is made about charges."

The assistant director, Dave Halls.

Bruce Lee’s son was killed in a similar fashion. Hollywood never learns . Infested with so many hot head Communists it is a miracle it has not stacked up more bodies.
RUST is about an accidental killing with a gun....AND Baldwin co-wrote the script. Something just doesn't smell right to me. We'll have to see if her prints are on the casing. Someone said she picked it up...I don't believe it.
When I was in the Navy and we handled something of great value, we had to sign a Chain of Custody list.
Don’t they already have something like that on Movie Sets?
If not, this was an accident literally waiting to happen that could never easily be explained.
Arec Bardwin will skate.
Dave is toast.
I don’t know what will happen under criminal law, but:
Every person who takes training from any government approved instructor, as for concealed carry, is taught that he/she must not point the gun at anyone that is not a threat, whether the gun is loaded or unloaded.
Further, it is considered standard practice to inspect any gun handed to you for any reason, to determine whether it is loaded or unloaded.
Take your gun to any reputable gun dealer and offer it to him for sale and see what he does. He will immediately check it for hot or cold. If it is a semi, he will rack the slide and lock it open. A very careful guy will drop the mag before he racks it.
So, bottom line. The girl has not done anything criminal.
Baldwin probably has a civil case against her.
As for Baldwin, the outlook should be grim. Just as the parent who leaves his gun on the coffee table to be picked up by a child, Baldwin is responsible for anything that happens with the gun once that gun is in his possession, criminally, morally, etc.
He is in very big trouble.
Because it was her job to ensure it was loaded with blanks. It was her job to maintain the chain of custody. It was her job to know. If someone else messed with the weapon then she failed to do her job.
The guns on sets are to locked up or under the direct control of the armored unless being used for the scene. She, or her assistant were supposed to check the loading, and hand the weapon to the actor personally. The gun was left out on a tray and the assistant director handed Baldwin the weapon. That is not the the way it is supposed to work. I looked t up.
She is as guilty as Baldwin.
I’m with you on that. Here’s an imperfect analogy.
A guy is sitting in a parked car. His buddy comes up and gives him an open bottle of whiskey (bad move there). The guy gets drunk, then drives off and kills someone on the road.
Who bears the ultimate responsibility? I’d say it was the driver.
Its pretty obvious it was all the guns fault, you right wing nuts.
She had personally complained about lack of "security" meetings.
Was Alec having an affair....still sits in the back of my mind. This "non-accident" would likely cost him less than a divorce.
It was a revolver. No casing to pick up.
plenty of negligence, but imo the final outcome the buck stops with baldwin..
would anyone here on FR shoot a gun aim at someone without yourself checking if it was loaded? methinks not, as a former law enforement officer I always checked a weapon handed to me. You think a cop would get a break, well he said it wasn’t loaded? NO
Asst. Director...Hall...said he never checked all the rounds...
This entire story is unfolding like a “Who (really) Dunnit” Alfred Hitchcock would have written and directed. Except with Hitch, there was usually at least one knock out, blonde, Femme Fatale.
Kim Novack, Tippie Hedren, Janet Leigh are past examples.
> Should have hired an NRA member instead of a little airhead moron... <
Or they should have just hired a union armorer.
Yeah, I know unions are imperfect. But union tradespeople are, in general, way better trained and more experienced than someone hired off the street.
It was her job to know whether the gun was loaded, and provide adult supervision. That’s all she had to do.
Not even after they’re taken out of the cylinder?
I believe the whole of the rule is that Halls and Baldwin were required to check them together. It's called "witness".
First, it is not a prop gun. It is a real gun. The person who put a real bullet in the gun and the person who did not check the gun and who pointed the gun at a real person and pulled the trigger are the responsible two. Mostly the blame falls on Alec Baldwin for not checking, pointing the gun at a real person and putting his finger on the trigger. That from an anti-gun person!
