Our Safeway appears to be trying to hide the supply shortage by using single lines of products to fill shelves. Leading to this: pic.twitter.com/CDXR67FYRu

ugh....common retail merchandising practice.

Cant sell from an empty cart. Multiple facings is the last resort.

This Q nonsense has to stop.

This Q nonsense has to stop.

No one has even mentioned anything about 'Q', so why bring it up?...............

The shelves look so much neater that way. Beats looking at empty shelves, with all the dust, dirt, bugs, etc.

This is a long-standing common practice in retail. It is important from a retail perspective that stores look like they have a lot of merchandise.

The one I was in yesterday (for dog food only) looked very well stocked. Don’t the Cartoons have investments in Chinamart?

Dollar Tree here was totally empty of food 2 days ago. Candy wiped out too. About 20 bottles of pickle relish, 20 or so worchestershire sauce, 8 or 10 cans of sardines, that’s it. Freezer empty too. Never saw anything like it.

Grocery store day before not bad. No idea what it will look like in a few days when I get my car back...timing belt, almost $1000 repair and both engine mounts busted. I hate new cars...if it was a normal engine, not mounted sideways, I could do it myself for $75.

I went to my local Winco this morning to ‘stock up’,and pretty much got everything I wanted. Shelves were full, plenty of everything really. The only thing I couldn’t find was minced garlic in a jar, so I bought some regular old garlic and will mince it myself. Prices on the other hand...my grocery bill went up $100/week in just a couple months. Granted, I’ve been buying “extra” for months now.

They are not trying to hide "Biden's empty shelves". They are "Fluffing" their inventory so as to appear well stocked. It is a usual and customary retail practice, especially where I live - on an island where delayed shipments and shortages are commonplace. It's just what you do when you run short of some products.

Effective merchandising requires that shelves and racks appear full. Of course, that is getting harder for some retailers these days and people are noticing. However, any experienced retailer wants his store to appear well stocked whether it is or not. Until it gets really bad, most people won't notice.

Now they are noticing.

I noticed prices are up today. Food Items costing a dollar two weeks ago are now $1.25.

I mentioned this on a different thread a couple of days ago. I buy Great Value Whole Grain Saltines. They were 77 cents a month or so ago. Now, they're 98 cents.

Of course, 21 cents is a pittance and the crackers are still a bargain, but on a percentage basis applied to an entire cart of groceries... you bet rising prices are noticeable.
