A team of international scientists compared the temperature of cosmic gas farther away from Earth (and, therefore, farther back in time) to younger gases nearer to our planet and to the present day. According to their calculations, in the past 10 billion years, the mean temperature of these gases has increased by more than 10 times,

Martians with Hummers
It was joke, as weak as it was. However, you do make a point. Maybe the extra energy is coming from another galaxy of beings who don’t have an EPA bureaucracy? If so, we need to export our tree buggers. I still wonder what happened to the Universe contracting, as was the theory at one time.
Paging Greta …

They have no idea how hot it’s going to be for them if they haven’t turned their lives over to Jesus! Hell is real!
Cue Greta to shake her fist at the universe and screech *how dare you!”
Trump’s fault! < /sarc >
More pseudo-science guesswork. Give 'em another grant to "study" it!
Just how does one take the temperature of the Universe?
We nasty humans are causing COSMIC WARMING!!
Ever notice that every time scientists THINK they can measure something it turns into an imminent catastrophe?
God promised it 2 Peter 3:10
It’s going to happen. I believe the bible, and that’s what it says.
The jokes can write themselves.
With a spectrometer. Gases emit different wavelengths of UV radiation based on their temperature.
Of course, that doesn’t really give you the temperature of the universe, just the temperature of that particular gas cloud, but I guess if you measure enough of them you can get some kind of average.
The only way this could have any local effect is if the temperature of empty space within our solar system increased by an amount that would reduce the ability of the Earth to radiate its heat into space. Since there is no gravitationally generated dark matter sources anywhere near us this is not a problem.
The only real problem is whether this effect increases the level of cosmic radiation in the universe. Our Earth’s atmosphere and magnetic field block most of this from reaching the surface where it could harm us but travelling through space would become even more harmful to life. It reinforces my contention that human space travel is suicide and spending money on missions to Mars for any length of time is a total waste.
With an enormous rectal thermometer. Stuck in...naw, not gonna say it...
First of all, consider the source...
Popular Mechanics?
Good grief that means all those years I published were wasted in the wrong physics journals...
