WASHINGTON, Wednesday, Sept. 18.
The health of the soldiers still continues to be remarkably good. The official report of the number sick shows a slight increase of this week over the last, but not a total of anything like as large as would be expected. The following are the numbers in each Hospital: E-street Hospital, 80; Seminary, 167; Union Hospital, 207; Columbia, 236. Regulars, 78. Eruptive diseases, 23. Total, 790. Considering the number of men here, this is a very low total -- not as large as it would be among the same number of persons in the City of New-York, being less than one per cent. of the Army. The mortality is very slight, not ten per cent. of the sick.
Gen. MEIGS and Postmaster BLAIR returned from St. Louis this morning. Upon their arrival an extra meeting of the Cabinet was held, for the purpose of hearing their reports.
The nature of Mr. BLAIR's report is against the policy pursued by Gen. FREMONT. It is complained by FRANK BLAIR that Gen. FREMONT is making preparations for his expedition down the Mississippi, and is more intent upon striking a blow at the Cotton States, and opening the river to the sea, than he is of clearing the State of Missouri of the marauding rebels that now infest it. Gen. FREMONT is reported to have closed his doors against the contractors, and is guilty of refusing audiences to politicians and State officials who love to grind axes.
POSSIBLE RESIGNATION OF GEN. FREMONT.
The session of the Cabinet over this matter was quite long. It is possible the conclusion was to supercede Gen. FREMONT, probably by tendering him a different and less important command, which will involve the necessity of his again resigning from the Army.

The major battle for Lexington, MISSOURI (ahem), aka "Battle of Hemp Bales", started September 12 and is "now" nearing its conclusion, unhappily for the greatly outnumbered Union forces....
It was claimed early by Lincoln the war would be fought to collect taxes. When that proved to be insufficient to justify the increasing casualties, Lincoln said he was fighting to save the union. Later the war took on a moral tone - Lincoln was said to be “fighting to free the slaves.”
At Gettysburg, Lincoln went further and suggested that from the beginning, the war was fought for racial equality.
Comes now Brother Joe, setting the stage for an even more preposterous claim. In due time Brother Joe will cite the St. Albans Raid and make the argument the real reason Lincoln attacked the South was to prevent Vermont from being forced into the Confederacy.
Wait for it.
Typical Democrat, jeffersondem wants us to look at his bright-shiny object -- St. Albans Raid -- and ignore our lying eyes, which see Confederate invasions of Union states & territories: Missouri, New Mexico, Kentucky & West Virginia.
Of the 30 engagements in the Union, Confederates have won 13, the Union 16 with one inconclusive.
Of 19 engagements in the Confederacy, Confederates won 10, the Union 4 with 5 inconclusive.
Overall as of "today", Confederates are doing quite well both defending their own states and invading the Union.
The "recent" "Battle of Hemp Bales" in Lexington, Missouri, being a typical example.
“Of the 49 engagements, 30 (61%) were in Union states & territories, 19 in the Confederacy . . .”
He’s doing it!!! He’s doing it!!!
Prove him wrong or shut up.
“Prove him wrong or shut up.”
That is not a very nice thing to say.
You can't reason a man out of a position which he didn't reason himself into.
Boy, irony’s lost on you, huh?
Not a very nice subject, treasonous secession and slave owing.
You Rebs are a never ending source of bemusement. You try to make relativist arguments about the merits of Confederate secession, particularly to a man like “Bro Joe K’’, a history professor and he makes fools out of you every time.
But you don’t give up. You keep saying the same things, over and over and get slapped for it, over and over.
Foolery is lost on me. It seems to be yours and others stock in trade.
Firstly, secession is a right given by God, and it is how this country separated from England. It is both moral and proper that peoples have the right to self determination.
Secondly, the Union owned slaves before the war, and the Union continued to own slaves after the war. The only difference between the Northern State Union and the Southern states was that the Northern state Union used murder and invasion to force their dominance over other states which did not want to be their slaves.
Coming from the premier fool here I’ll accepted that as a back handed compliment.
So how’s life today dear?(You are female,correct?)
Take your meds have you?
If you are deluded enough to believe that the invasion and murder of 750,000 people to make the corrupt city of Washington DC dominate everyone else is perfectly fine, then I see no reason why you wouldn't believe all sorts of nonsensical ideas.
Fixed it for you.
