Nobody Is Coming to Save California

The lesson of the recall election: A solid plurality of Californians is OK with the status quo.

In the end, it wasn’t really even close.

California Governor Gavin Newsom easily survived his recall election on Tuesday, with voters rejecting his ouster by nearly two-to-one. The results won’t be official until next month, but as of now, the “no recall” vote leads by a resounding 27 percentage points. By any account, it was a big win for the third-rate politician who is utterly incapable of making a public statement without resorting to platitudes and clichés.

Was the election rigged? Some disappointed Larry Elder voters might want to think so. Certainly, there were some fishy stories, such as the bizarre arrest in Southern California last month of a man passed out in his car with 300 stolen ballots. And there were scattered reports this past week of voters being told they had already cast their ballots when they clearly had not.

Elder had the advantage of right-wing celebrity, which only goes so far in a cerulean blue state. He also made a point of appealing to black and Latino voters, who tend to be an afterthought for many GOP candidates. And the fact is, Elder drew nearly 2.4 million votes in a crowded field of 46 candidates. But the “no” vote on question one—the only question that mattered—currently stands at 5.8 million and counting. So even if one argues Elder didn’t “lose,” he certainly wouldn’t have had anything approaching a popular mandate had question one prevailed.

California was lost years ago.

The concept of saving California is ludicrous.

California is far beyond the concept of Salvation. The red areas of California are in actual fact tax slaves to the cities, the blue zones

Kalifornistan is where the pinkos learned to master the steal. It went national in 2020.

California was just the template to destroy America. The republicans and democrats hate Americans. They will fly in third worlders to destroy America and brag about it.

I expect Newsom to be in the White House at some point. Then he can do to us what he did to CA.

We are getting closer to where secession may be the best option for freedom-loving Americans.

Help is not on the way. Take it as it is or leave it. Mark it off your vacation spots. California, here I come? Not.

Patriotic Americans in California's red counties have two options: leave or support de facto secession from Sacramento. The red counties are located in the Central Valley and the inland northern counties. Orange and San Diego Counties are now enemy occupied. The sheriffs and county commissioners in the red counties better grow a spine quickly. They will need to organize large armed civilian posses to support moves to secede from Sacramento.

Recalling Newsom wouldn't fix California, it's too far gone for a simple replacement of the governor to fix anything. The problem with California is Californians.

California can't be fixed, better to just let it collapse in upon itself and hope it doesn't take the rest of the country with it.

We don't know that.

Newsom actually got a higher percentage in the recall vote (64%) than he got in the 2018 governor's election (just 62%).

This is a critical wake up call for the GOP in regard to the 2022 election.

The Democrat rank and file do not care how poorly they are governed as long as they are governed by fellow Democrats.

Any Conservative who thinks the GOP can waltz into a Congressional majority in 2022 is mistaken.

If this recall had succeeded and Larry Elder had won the election to replace Newsom, he might have done well to demand a recount. He'd be in a no-win situation where the Democrat-controlled legislature would make him a non-entity.

The author of this piece overlooks some California realities when it comes to demographics. Sure, it's great that Elder got a decent level of support from black voters ... but blacks are only about 6% of the California population to begin with. They are outnumbered by every major racial/ethnic group, including whites (57%), Hispanics (37%) and Asians (13%).

He has been The Chosen One for two decades - that's why he got so panicky over the recall, looking like a child whose toy was about to be taken away.

But Aunt Nancy will make sure it happens. Newsom is the living embodiment of style over substance - the penultimate Democrat (the Antichrist being the ultimate...)

I still say that most conservative observers are overlooking the single biggest factor in the rise of leftist politics in the U.S. over the last 50+ years. It's not race, or demographics, or even political partisanship at all. It's URBANIZATION, and California reflects this trend very closely. It became a Marxist state because cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco-Oakland, San Diego, Riverside-San Bernardino, Sacramento and San Jose all major metro areas in the U.S.

"What's in it for me?"

Most of what we consider poor government is not seen in any way as negative by Democrat voters.

Saying the 2020 elections were not stolen was just one place where Elder went off the rails. The interview question about transgenders, talking about sex education in schools, those were things for the future. We in California are pissed about masks. He should have answered more questions with platitudes about caring and then gone right back to covid response. That would have won it. He was campaigning to win in a field of hundreds but neglected to campaign about the recall itself.
