The lesson of the recall election: A solid plurality of Californians is OK with the status quo.
In the end, it wasn’t really even close.
California Governor Gavin Newsom easily survived his recall election on Tuesday, with voters rejecting his ouster by nearly two-to-one. The results won’t be official until next month, but as of now, the “no recall” vote leads by a resounding 27 percentage points. By any account, it was a big win for the third-rate politician who is utterly incapable of making a public statement without resorting to platitudes and clichés.
Was the election rigged? Some disappointed Larry Elder voters might want to think so. Certainly, there were some fishy stories, such as the bizarre arrest in Southern California last month of a man passed out in his car with 300 stolen ballots. And there were scattered reports this past week of voters being told they had already cast their ballots when they clearly had not.
Elder had the advantage of right-wing celebrity, which only goes so far in a cerulean blue state. He also made a point of appealing to black and Latino voters, who tend to be an afterthought for many GOP candidates. And the fact is, Elder drew nearly 2.4 million votes in a crowded field of 46 candidates. But the “no” vote on question one—the only question that mattered—currently stands at 5.8 million and counting. So even if one argues Elder didn’t “lose,” he certainly wouldn’t have had anything approaching a popular mandate had question one prevailed.

The biggest reason it didn’t succeed is that millions of Californians who would have voted to dump that idiot governor have already left the state.
Believe you are the early winner of this thread with your comment.
“cerulean”.
Had to look that one up.
I feel sorry for Larry.
He deserved better.
And they’ve been replaced with millions of compliant occupiers.
Republicans have done a great job of convincing their voters that every race is the “one” that’s important, take a 50%+1 strategy for victory, and when that fails, everything is hopeless. If Republicans were as willing to burrow in to areas, be willing to put in the time to change hearts and minds at the street level, and look at all political contests as a generational struggle that just needs the right combination of factors to pounce, they’d be in a much better position.
The election was stolen. That’s why they forced mail-in ballots. I posted a gif of two women stealing mail in ballots - they weren’t the only ones.
This kind of article just works to try to convince people that decency and patriotism are out of style and ‘nobody cares anymore’.
The people who don’t care voted for Biden (very few). The people who cared voted for Trump.
Newsom is another puppet of a stolen election.
I guess Newson won, fair and square.
It used to be Dems were only able to steal about 1% of the vote. Now it looks like the 10% is the going rate. His margin is beyond that.
I am sure there were lots of manufactured and harvested votes, but this looks like they have not matter.
Why? He comes out of this in much better shape than when he went in.
He went from being a somewhat well known talk show host to being a national leader of the Conservative movement.
The publicity he received from this is priceless.
As California descends into the pit, his star may yet rise in California politics.
“Californians who would have voted to dump that idiot governor have already left the state.”
...and massive fraud. And the voters who’ve left are now infecting other states with their lib votes.
Larry DID say he believed Biden won fair and square.
I think that hurt him.
Still, he never would’ve won, anyhow, considering the cheating.
The last time we had a Recall didn’t really turn out well either. We ended up with a fake conservative. Wienershnitzel.
Larry should run for congress from a precinct he has a chance of winning.
When the Fascist Democrats are in control it matters not who votes, but who counts the votes. It was clear that even the democrats hate this governor, but with the machines rigged for Newsom, and everyone from a conservative area told that “they already voted by mail” when they went in person to vote, you get what you get there. It has been like this for years in California. They are trying now to take this nationwide.
Our biggest threat now is filthy kalifornians immigrating to civilized states, bringing their self-destructive, tie died pot smoking slothful lifestyle with them. Old farts with gray haired ponytails. Their seventy year old hippie chicks with mini skirts and cottage cheese thighs and knees and varicose veins.
Please! Keep them on the coasts.

I placed the unsolicited ballots in my memorabilia binder so that I could remember that the registrar in California sent the ballots to my post office box in Texas.
I wonder if someone was kind enough to vote for me in the recall election? /s
And the “blueist” state of all becomes even more “blue”.
Malefactors of great wealth have made it so. And they somehow believe, they are on a mission to carry out the fundamental transformation they have brought to California, to the entire rest of the country, “for their own good”, of course.
Command-and-control regimes always start out doing things for “the people’s own good”, but somehow, never quite succeed in making that model work. So step by step, more and more authority is accrued to the oligarchy that is in effective control of the day-to-day workings of the Great and Munificent Holy State, a god above all others. Until at last, the serfs can stand it no longer, and plunge into a “nothing left to lose” revolt against the oligarchy.
This never ends well, as witness the French Revolution, which ended up with just a different oligarchy running things. Until the Revolution itself imploded, and a firm military dictatorship took its place.
