He lifted the franchise.
He’s the bad guy in From Russia With Love
Ahh.. the money?
Yes, but we don’t care that much about Bond’s inner motives and personal traumas. We just want to see him chase people and blow stuff up and save Western Civilization.
And the Bond girls. Don’t forget the Bond girls.
Bond cannot survive in these woke times. Stick a fork in him.
Sean Connery was the only James Bond...The others were all imitations...
Started reading Ian Fleming’s Bond books in the early ‘60’s and could see Connery in them from the start...
For me its still Connery.....but Craig is a close #2.
One reason being IMO Craig had the benefit of special effects Connery never had.
OBTW Roger Moore (RIP) is still a dead last....those were lean years for Bond,James Bond.
Just my 2 cent
Can’t wait for Maxwell Smart’s credibility to rise simply due to physicality.
Maybe I’m getting old, but I’m edging closer to Craig as the best James Bond. I know...that’s blasphemy. I’ve been a diehard Sean Connery believer since Goldfinger around my junior high school years, but I watched Skyfall again the other day. Damn, Craig’s Bond is a mean SOB. I like him mean.
Connery was a real-life stud. Big guy, very athletic, almost didn’t get the Bond role because Fleming thought him too much of a bruiser.
This movie and the second Top Gun movie are the only reason in the past 18 months I would desire to go to a theater.
No doubt that Craig brought an element to Bond that was ignored for years. A raw killer dealing w/the emotions of life and death. Ian Fleming addressed this in several books and brought humanity to a conflicted character. However, Sean Connery created the image of Bond. He was also raw and ruthless even during the times when movies were more tame than they are now.
Bond is intense. His life, his job, his psyche all swirl about in a field of tension. He is sensitive, he sees deeply and around corners, with the eye of a hunter.
Connery carried that tension, always just below the surface, the warrior ready for action. Lazenby and Dalton, too. Moore was sorely lacking that quiet and potential menace, he never sold me.
Craig sold me. He’s been pretty good so far.
Casino Royale is still amazing.
He’s the wrong color for future Bonds.
Do you think we’ll ever have another character like “Pussy Galore” ?
I liked Craig more than I expected - he doesn’t have that killer sex appeal at first but he grows on you because he seems dangerous - Bond is supposed to be dangerous. Connery wove between sooo sexy, funny and dangerous. He’s still my favorite but Craig does a good job in a slightly different way - more serious.
Didn’t like Spectre. The writing was bad in that one.
Agreed.
Best Bond.
