Microsoft’s Terrible Windows 11 Launch Risks Repeating the Windows 8 Disaster
reviewgeek ^ | Jul 1, 2021 | JOSH HENDRICKSON

There’s a joke that Microsoft follows a good, bad pattern with its OS launches: Windows XP: good, Windows Vista: bad, Windows 7: good. Windows 8: bad, Windows 10: good. Alas, in keeping with the cycle, Microsoft is botching the Windows 11 launch, and it might wreck an otherwise good OS.

Thanks to a leaked build, a launch event, and a newly released Windows Insider preview, we have a good idea of what Windows 11 will look like now. And for the most part, it looks like Windows 10 with a fresh coat of paint. Windows 11 dumps live tiles, moves the taskbar to a centered view, and handles multi-monitor setups better. But very little exists in Windows 11 that doesn’t exist in Windows 10 in some form. Windows 11 takes what’s good about Windows 10 and improves on it, which is a good thing.

That’s why it’s confusing to see Microsoft completely bungle what should otherwise be the easy part—the launch of the operating system. Don’t get me wrong, the actual launch (as in getting the OS prepared for release) is a difficult process. But we’re talking about the PR launch: telling the world about the OS and what to expect.

MUCH MORE at the link.

M$FT is up to its usual tricks. Taking something good (Win 10) and wrecking it with a "new" version.

People say Linux is looking better and better.

How is that?

This is one time I have to take up for MSFT. Windows was losing market share because many users wanted a tablet/ipad/smartphone look. So they provided that with Windows 8.

Even though Windows 8 had the option to switch back to a classic Windows look, way too many users grumbled, so Windows 10 had the more classic look.

Now users are back to fussing that it looks too much like their grandma's PC. Basically, there's no pleasing the customer base. It's kinda like many of the people who today fuss about too many blacks are behind bars are the same people who fussed in the 1990's to arrest more of the blacks that were turning black neighborhoods into ghettos. People tend to forget what they demanded to be happy in the recent past.

They forced people to take Windows ten while many of us refused to give up seven. Was freaking extortion.

It’s long past time to bet against Microsoft. They’re going to be a huge player in the USSS (US Surveillance State) This is a done deal.

I say Windows 10 is good. My computer runs 24/7 without crashing. Everything works fine every time. I don’t do many things but I remember the daily reboots with other versions. I don’t know how Windows 11 will make it any better.

Got very tired of my wife yelling at me to fix her W10 computer, only to find it was bogged down with “update” crap.

I had already, as much as I could find, turned off the spying stuff. She only does facef*ck and email on it, so who cares, but the idea of them uploading things was too much.

I stay with 7 pro and it is still solid.
