So, my wife and I were looking at moving back to NE Alabama after a year displaced by COVID. We had a place lined up that fell through due to some septic issues. We've been checking out listings as they pop up and today saw a 4 bed, 2 bath come on the market with 1,911 sq. ft and 3.4 acres, that noted, "Plus Fenced in Area for Farm Animals!"
So, I'm checking out the pics, and there's some kind of critter that looks like a mix between a hyena and a pig with mange. WTF is that?
Oh, God. We’re in Chambers county. Our neighbor had an emu and a donkey. Besides the donkey braying 24/7, that emu made the most unearthly noise on the planet. I think the donkey died and the emu ended up in his freezer for dinner. And he had two chicken coops. There was one rooster in particular who had it in for me, and I don’t know why. I never did nothin’ to him, but when he’d see me, he’d come running down the hill and up to the pond on the other side of the fence with a couple of hens in tow, and act like a pissed off hornet. I think he finally gave up on animal husbandry. Been quiet there for about three years now, but he still lives there. Same goes for the neighbors a half mile away - for ages, they had a paddock and two miniature horses, complete with shelter, hay, a small barn, food and water troughs, the works. Then about a year ago, I noticed that the horses were gone and the area had been flattened over. Could be that lightning hit one of the trees back there and cooked the horses into Alpo.
I loved living there, though. I could pee off the front porch and shoot off the back.
A wolf mix
It’s not a pig. Some kind of wolf mix
I have an Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) but he looks nothing like the “dog?” in the pic.
Let’s grill it and see if it tastes good.
Aww!!
How beautiful!
You win the prize! Lol

That is the definition of rich enough and having it made. Anything more is just more problems. I've had to shoo opossums and raccoons off first. But I'm one of those Southerners who keep saying the War of Northern Aggression so don't mind me. Ya'll.
dawg’s been playin in the hog squalor agin!
I doubt cost would be the showstopper, and it’s quite habitable, but I’ll still probably put a good bit into upgrades over the next year. It’s a special property. Living in that little town (I lived in it for two years when I first acquired it) is very much like stepping back into the 1950s, which is not for everyone. I’m in the process of installing a white farm fence in the front yard along the parking area which will have a sign that reads “GG” for “Galt’s Gulch”.
I just bought all new appliances for it, and three new beds for the second floor guest rooms. Two bedrooms are on the first floor and two “kid bedrooms” on the third.
If I wasn’t in Free Florida I would be loading up right now.
I did notice that. Fashionable:)
Does that precious baby belong to you?
My family consists of a rescued Golden Retriever, her Blue Heeler son and a Maine Coon cat (The Boss).
Even though he has been missing for three years Teddy, Bella’s (Our Golden Retriever) other son will always be family and we are still waiting with open arms. 😰
Thanks for the posts!
No, it was just one of a dozen or so pics I found and posted here.
Lol...if ya got a purty mouth don’t buy the place.
I dont know but Im sure its racist.

could be a bearded pig:

could be a juvenile lynx after chickens:
Texas bobcat:
notice the healthy sized tail and feathered jowls:

they can be grey:

but most likely it’s just an old blue heeler mixed breed
If it is a bobcat, watch out for bobcat predators.
